Romney shakes up the strategy, tones down rhetoric

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Mitt Romney's Etch A Sketch moment is at hand.

Now that he's the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Romney is shifting away from the "red-meat" issues of abortion and immigration and instead holding more events highlighting his appeal as a regular guy.

He will favor more intimate settings, like the Ohio classroom, and a schedule that calls for fewer public appearances as the campaign hopes to show a softer side of the former Massachusetts governor who struggles at times to connect with average Americans. That's a dramatic difference from Obama, who feeds on large crowds and has scheduled his first formal campaign rallies for May 5.

While the Republican presidential contest has been raging for more than a year, the Romney campaign concedes that most general election voters haven't yet paid close attention. The campaign now sees an opportunity to reintroduce their candidate to the independents and moderate voters — Hispanics and younger voters, among them

“highlighting his appeal as a regular guy”
“Romney paid for his graduate education at Harvard University, in part, by selling stock that his father — a former Michigan governor — bought for him, Ann Romney told the Boston Globe in 1994.”

Didn’t we all?

“Romney is almost constantly cracking jokes with the people around him ... loves practical jokes”

Annie, remember that time I told you about, the time we saw those poor colored people crawling around eating grass? It was in that—what did they call it, Robert? A `ghetto’? And they were really eating that scrubby grass, right down to the roots, Broken glass, dirt everywhere. It was really grim. I put on my concerned expression for that.
Well of course I couldn’t stand for that, hmmm, so I had Stephens have several of them actually get in the Caddy and offered to “take them back to our home—here—for a real meal”!
OK listen closely here it comes ...
They were really appreciative, I’ll give them that much. They said, “Mister, you sure you can do dat?” There were about a half dozen of them in the stretch and each one looked hungrier than the next. Or maybe they were just heroin addicts.
“Well,” I said ... “Well, don’t you worry about it!
Our yard help has taken off for points south for that May watchamacallit Mex holiday, and our grass is long, thick and lush!”
HA HA HA HA HA.
Man, we laughed all the way home, after we kicked `em out.
You should have been there old girl. What a hoot that was.

This article is leftist garbage. Romney was focusing on the economy before and he continues to do so.

Focused laser like as Obama was, I suppose. He claimed to lower taxes, but it was offset by huge increases in fees that were in no way voluntary - another class of tax. He has never been focused on the economy in a good way.

Following his pathway to defeat.

It’s hard to believe that we have the worst President in the history of America, and a canddate running against him who is almost as bad.

"LOL — if Romney tones it down any further, he’ll be sleep walking through the entire campaign. I’m getting this awful feeling that he, like McCain is going to mail it in.

Oh, but you didn't get the memo! The other night Hannity said this is shaping up to be REAGAN (yes, he said Reagan) vs. Carter again. And the twit on his "Great American Panel" agreed, and declared Romney needs to start showing some of that........wait for it..........PERSONALITY.

LOL!

The primary was about the economy and debt spending. This articles just making things up. It wasn’t about abortion and immigration. Yahoo doing the bidding of the left to try to divide the party.

Bah...pure spin...here's the real reason for the more intimate settings...

...and the damned GOP-E could have had THIS...

...but noooooooooo! Can't have a real Conservative who excites the base, now can we?

Romney will hammer Obama on the economy and let others do the dog-eat-dog stuff

Sorry, Mustang, but Romney will not control the discussion.

The debates will be the nails in the coffin. He flat-out lied about his record in the primary debates. And he showed a penchant for getting angry and/or flustered when the "moderators" wouldn't control things for him.

He also has done absolutely nothing to distinguish himself from Obama. Their records and positions are practically identical. If Romney says "You did this." to Obama, Obama will be able to say, "So did you."

Obama will have his way, because the media will ensure that, and Romney will be a joke by the time November rolls around.

The biggest mistake the Santorum campaign made was to allow the MSM create the issues. This was the failure to connect the social issue (population control) which is in Obamacare. Hence to Romneycare and his opponents record as governor of Massachusetts .and its failures and costs

. Population control is an integral part of that 2400 page legislation known as the “Affordable Healthcare Act” which nobody read before because everybody is to “read it after it gets passed to find out what is in it”. So if the Senate and the House will not read it. Why should SCOTUS when they rule on it ?

While SCOTUS is set to rule on Obamacare in June I for one am not that certain we are going like what the court comes up with. Obamacare has got to be thrown out. The only way I for one will feel Romnney can fire up support is if and when he repudiates Romneycare as a mistake. Conservatives do not trust him on his EPA positions, and on Obamacare.

OBAMACARE MUST GO Voting in a May 2012 GOP Primary ??
If Santorum is on your primary ballotVote for the man and his delegates who fought it Not for the man who brought it
OBMACARE is a 1.76 Trillion $ Hydra
A 9 headed Serpent whose heads must be decapitated all at once with a Firebrand otherwise they grow back and devour everything in sight
by L.J .Keslin / http://www.theusmat.com
Note this article will print out on 1 page at 60% setting

Sen Rick Santorum, had the courage to take on a what they call a third rail issue...Eugenics...one of the heads on that 9 headed snake called obamacare.. and Santorum had his character asassinated for it... Rick was pummeled from both sides Called , a women hater ,, a religious nut, and ..a one trick pony. Santorum detractors will talk about... certainly not ,what’s really in the 1.76 trillion dolllar wonder called Obamacare ,,...!; Population control,.Death panels., Private presidential armys..requiring US to pay for birth control pills and abortions and all that goes in those 2400 pages of rules, laws, and regulations and with it. cost, 1.76 trillion and rising .

Mr Romney it aint over and the fat lady has not yet opened her mouth but we are telling you in no uncertain terms OBAMACARE MUST GO .....

HELLOOO!! He's a sacrificial lamb. Obama wins going away.

As Uncle Joe said: "It's not who votes,it's who counts the votes."

You have to be a stone idiot to believe you're still part of the "process".

uh-huh.

I actually remember when Bush was running for President. You know when he performed best? It was when HE personally took after the Democrats and embraced conservative rhetoric on values, life, security, taxes etc...

you know when his ratings plummeted? When he let himself be defined by the attacks and would not respond.

He was extremely predictable. He’d let us carry water for him until the attacks had continued so long he needed to intervene to rescue his polls then he’d become a conservative warrior on the stump and slash the liberals to huge applause lines. Polls rise, rinse and repeat. After his re-election he pretty much gave up defending himself ever except on the WOT or...welll...he did show some fire when it came to fighting CONSERVATIVES over immigration and Miers. Numbers never recovered. Katrina? Let himself be destroyed over it. Let himself be ripped apart in the name of the “new tone” and destroyed his bond with the people who had got him that far. The conservative base.

But at least Bush HAD a significant base to thumb his nose at. Romney has no such bond with the activists who are most equipped to respond to the new left’s attacks. Some of the nuConservative elite media have reluntantly rallied out of duty and dislike of Obama but the passion isn’t there.

you know...I’m not necessarily opposed to the idea of feigning being above the fray and letting your surrogates viciously tear the opponent apart. But I have to have faith in the object I am defending. Roberts had a pretty clean inoffensive record the Left struggled to be able to make controversial and was appointed to the Supreme Court fairly easily. But there were enough signs there for me to indicate I could trust the guy. I don’t trust romney and won’t be doing battle on his behalf.

Oh, and I have to laugh at the idea this guy’s tone was ever in need of being toned down. LOL At least from the right’s side. The guy was more passionate about defending Leftist positions then right positions during the primary.

Let’s see now: Moderate NE RINO, heir to the Rockefeller RINO wing of the “Let’s not rock the boat EVER GOP-E Good Ol’ Boys” Club, is going whisper velvety murmurs into the waiting, hungry ears of the same 92 % unemployed women that he made a campaign point about, 2 weeks ago.

Smooooooooth, Romney. Real smooth.

Romney really is a dunce at trying to win a job as leader against the worst occupant of the White House EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Romney has not failed to plan, he has planned TO fail!

BTW, one really can’t write script for a worse Republican Candidate than the actual quotes from Romney.

BTW, BTW, IMHO, the problem is that the RINO Political Party tries to win the “Independent” vote, but the reality is that the RINO Party has ALWAYS been the Independent Political Party, so the Republicans just stay home on Election day.

BTW, BTW, BTW, “T” is for TEXAS, Tampa, and our beloved TEA Party!
