Romney shakes up the strategy, tones down rhetoric

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Mitt Romney's Etch A Sketch moment is at hand.

Now that he's the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Romney is shifting away from the "red-meat" issues of abortion and immigration and instead holding more events highlighting his appeal as a regular guy.

He will favor more intimate settings, like the Ohio classroom, and a schedule that calls for fewer public appearances as the campaign hopes to show a softer side of the former Massachusetts governor who struggles at times to connect with average Americans. That's a dramatic difference from Obama, who feeds on large crowds and has scheduled his first formal campaign rallies for May 5.

While the Republican presidential contest has been raging for more than a year, the Romney campaign concedes that most general election voters haven't yet paid close attention. The campaign now sees an opportunity to reintroduce their candidate to the independents and moderate voters — Hispanics and younger voters, among them

Romney is an expert on abuse against those serving as patriots in uniform.

"National Guard Lt. Anthony Circosta poses in his backyard in Agawam, Mass., on June 9, 2007.
At left, his wife Danielle and daughter Kylie, 2, talk near the swing set. Circosta,
a decorated Iraq War veteran, seemed like an ideal candidate for a pardon from
then-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the 29-year-old's boyhood conviction
for a BB gun shooting. Romney denied the pardon,
twice, despite the recommendation of the Governor's Council.

"Governor Orders POW/MIA Flags Flown for Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day"

"Office of the Governor of the State of Alaska ^ | 04-09-09 | Gov. Sarah Palin
April 9, 2009, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin today signed a proclamation declaring April 9, 2009,
as Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day. The governor has ordered POW/MIA flags
to be flown in honor and memory of American men and women
who have placed themselves in harm’s way and faced the horrors of combat."
“The price paid by POW/MIA soldiers in defense of liberty is worthy of our highest
gratitude and most solemn remembrance,” Governor Palin said.
“On this day and always, they are in our thoughts and prayers. We will never forget them or their service.”

I wish whoever put that together had found a picture of Reagan in his proper US ARMY Cavalry uniform (like the one below - which is too good for re-sizing), rather than a US NAVY uniform he wore as an actor in a movie. Using the movie-role NAVY uniform pretty much undermines the whole truth in the picture, and is an insult to Reagan and his actual service.

Cr*p. My apologies - that is a US Army uniform Reagan is wearing. Just the WWII one that looks very similar to the USN’s khaki (like from Hellcats of the Navy). Reagan did look better in Pinks & Greens tho ...

Toning down rhetoric? Guess we will not see Rubio at his side. Not that I expected Mitt/GOP to intelligently, maximize his candidacy.

How does Romney expect to resonate with the voters he needs?

We are angry as hell watching our Constitution being shredded - something 'nice guys do not do - - and our Country destroyed along with it. We fear for our children and their future. - and whether anyone over fifty will even have one.

If Mitt is to 'resonate' - he needs to 'up' the amps. NOT tone it down. Weakness begins with perception....

Thanks GOP - so many ways to fail. . .and you seem determined to try them all.
