Reviled by some, Wisconsin's Walker is conservative celebrity
By Brendan O'Brien | Reuters 9 hrs ago
MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - At the National Rifle Association convention in St. Louis earlier this month, a top official rattled off a Who's Who of Republican politicians speaking to the group including Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Scott Walker.
The loudest applause was for Wisconsin governor Walker, who faces a special election in June that could make him only the third U.S. governor recalled from office.
Walker is a celebrity among conservatives wherever he goes thanks to his decision to take on public sector unions in his state, which has earned him the enmity of Democrats and organized labor.
Shortly after taking office last year, Walker defied tens of thousands of protesters to push through the legislature a measure to reduce the powers of public sector unions - forcing members to pay more for health insurance and pensions, and capping wage increases. Further enraging organized labor was a provision requiring them to vote every year to recertify unions.

They’ll only get louder and will no doubt resort to violence.
It’s coming. Not if, but when.
This country is a powder keg right now and everyones fuses are short.
just another part of Obamas 2012 terrorism campaign..
“Vote For The Black Guy....Or Else”
Regarding the recall election, Scott Walker has already won the war.
If he wins the recall election, he has obviously beaten the unions/Democrats (sorry for the repeat).
If he loses, the Democrats will put their cronies back into leadership positions in education and other positions thus returning Wisconsin into a money losing sewer. The people have tasted success under Walker; they won’t be supportive of the unions putting them back into the down-the-toilet spot they used to occupy. Again, a win for Scott Walker.
In fact, if Walker is thrown out, I think it sets him up for a national position because his record of success will be trumpeted throughout the U.S. and Wisconsin will be the laughing stock of the country.
We have to make sure he wins. This is the Unions’ last chance in Wisconsin, as if Walker’s reforms are allowed to stand, the Unions’ money machine will be disrupted in Wisconsin, and their power will therefore drop. I hope people in Wisconsin keep him.

I’m visiting my brother in Madison in about two weeks and I’ll be working for Walker and be bringing him a check. Politics aside, it’s time that men with cajones stand by men with cajones.
We held a Corner Rally in our town today for Scott Walker.
My sign says “Honk if you support the makers,
instead of the takers”’
We got 20 beeps and or thumbs up to every middle finger or thumbs down. Of course, we are in a conservative county-in Madison they would have run us over with their Priuses.
Please consider supporting Governor Walker and send money if you can’t come in person. We are ground zero for the rest of the states and have the full power of the unions coming against us.
I live in WI. and will have to flee this state if Scott loses.
But I don’t think he will. The eyes of the nation are upon us and as the recall goes, so goes the rest of the country.
Good work, Wis. lady.
And I was just kidding about leaving. I’m a Cheesehead through and through.
They’re now trying to say Walker is anti-women because he revoked sections of some state law that was passed by Dems previous to his admin supposedly adding to federal anti-discrimination laws. The federal law, as Walker pointed out, already guarantees women protection from discrimination. The Dem law was just designed to clog up the courts with frivolous lawsuits. And make mostly Dem lawyers more money. So now, according to the Dem candidates, Walker is “anti-women.”
No bias in that headline.
He is one of the folks I've been donating to this season.
Since it bacame obvious that my donations to Sarah, Herman and Newt was money long gone with no return, so giving a few bucks to Walker is my way of voting for him.
I live in PA so to vote for him, I'd have to go to Milwaukee and register as a demonRAT. Too far to go.
Whenever a “journalist” uses the “some say” idiom, it means that it is the writer’s opinion.
On another bent, wonder when we might see a headline: REVILED BY MOST, OBAMA REMAINS A LIBERAL CELEBRITY
You might like to hear this. Last evening, Cardinal Timothy Dolan returned to The Basilica of Holy Hill to say mass. Thousands wanted to be there, but alas I had to watch on TV. Cardinal Dolan acknowledged the presence near the front of the church of Gov. Scott Walker - which caused a tremendous round of applause in the cathedral. It lasted for a long time which warmed my heart. Also in attendance were Rep. Paul Ryan and Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner. Gladly, I did NOT see any Democrats.
The warm welcome was given to Walker and of course we were thrilled to have Cardinal Dolan. Keep the faith, folks. Do what you can, donate what you can, volunteer to get out the vote for Walker on both dates, please.
Thanks for your support from the top of my cheese head to the bottom of my beer glass.
Thanks for the local update.
From what I read, Walker has a very good chance of beating the DemonRATs but what about the other pubbies that are being recalled? How are they doing?
Are any demonRATs that took off work and hid out in a motel being recalled?
The demonRATs are going to regret the fact that the halfrican, communist, mooselimb prick that is in the white hut LIED to Cardinal Dolan's face.
The religious freedom issue will not go quietly into the night and it will cost the demonRAT's votes in places where they least expect it.
Go Walker and all the recalled pubbies in WI.
We’re gonna pull Scott across the finish line and it’s going to be a great victory for goodness and courage.
He’s got truth on his side.
Saw a rusted Toyota with a Recall Walker and Obama ‘12 bumper this morning parked in a handicapped spot and I know the owner who is not disabled.
She is sickeningly promoting her non agenda everywhere she goes. She’s loud, brassy and unattractive..typical Lib. :-)
Thanks for all you are doing, WWWF. What a nice story about the Holy Hill event. Did the Journal cover it? HMMM?
Thanks for donating from Pa. USS.
I have now divested myself of $ to Newt, Cain and Santorum. The latter was worth it but the other two? Wish I had given it to Walker instead...even though I gave to his efforts as well.
Well, at least I know that I won’t be supporting the RNC anymore and will save there.
Milwauke Urinal / Sentinal DID have a nice article about Dolan, but no mention of the warm response to Walker, Ryan and Sensenbrenner.
At least they DID have an article plus photos.
