Mikhail Gorbachev, Ted Turner, Henry Kissinger Assemble to Mark Disc Release of ‘Cold War’
homemediamagazine.com ^ | April 30, 2012 | Anne Sherber

Posted on 04/30/2012 7:00:18 PM PDT by Tailgunner Joe

NEW YORK — It was hard to imagine, watching Mikhail Gorbachev and Henry Kissinger arrive at the Paley Center for Media in New York April 29, that the two grandfatherly old men were once at the very epicenter of Cold War politics. Gorbachev, once head of the notorious KGB and the USSR’s final president, and Kissinger, Nixon’s Secretary of State, often credited with and blamed for U.S. involvement in Vietnam, were at the Center to support the May 8 Warner Home Video DVD release of Cold War ($68.92).

The series, which was produced by and broadcast on CNN in 1998, was the brainchild of Ted Turner. According to Sir Jeremy Isaacs, the series’ executive producer, Turner’s motivation was his concern that history would not do justice to what he saw as a seminal period of history during which the USSR and the United States both developed the ability to end life on earth.

“Ted Turner said to me, ‘our grandchildren will not understand what the Cold War was. It will be a paragraph in a history book,’” Isaacs recalled.

According to Isaacs, who also produced The World at War, another epic documentary series that exhaustively chronicles a specific period of history, the original plan for the series was that it would be 40 episodes long, one for each year of the era. The running time was eventually halved, but Turner ultimately added four additional episodes. According to Pat Mitchell, who served as co-executive producer of the series and is now CEO of the Paley Center, a museum of broadcast media, it is already used extensively at universities and libraries as a teaching tool and is one of the most requested titles by visitors to the Paley Center.

Gorbachev, who presided over the dismantling of the Soviet Union and who was interviewed at length and figures prominently in the series’ last four episodes, said through a translator that although he occasionally had questions about the filmmakers’ perspective, he was impressed with the program’s comprehensiveness, overall.

“To some extent, one viewpoint seems to prevail,” he said. “But the series is very informative. It draws a line under all those conflicts that brought us several times to the edge of the destruction of civilization.”

Both Turner and Isaacs said that the DVD release of the documentary, which is narrated by Kenneth Branagh, is a case of a film that was waiting for a format. Isaacs noted that to prepare to answer questions about the series, he recently watched it from beginning to end and was struck by its depth.

“Some of the episodes are so packed with information that you have to concentrate to really understand,” he said.

The ability of disc viewers to maneuver through the series at their own pace makes the experience of watching much more rewarding, he said.

“DVD may be the medium for which Cold War was best made,” Isaacs noted.

Turner also was impressed when he revisited the series.

“I’m proud to have come up with the idea for the series and proud that it was executed so well,” Turner said. “Of all the documentaries that I have produced, I am proudest of this one.”

Warner Home Video plans to market Cold War to universities and museums. But, according to Rosemary Markson, SVP of TV and special interest marketing at Warner Home Video, the company also will be reaching out to mass-market outlets.

“It’s perfect for Father’s Day,” Markson said.

Oh, so Gorbachev doesn’t have a home on the Presidio? He doesn’t run Green Cross International? What facts were not presented?

How about your providing a figure on how much money Gorbachev has "stolen" (your word), and explaining how he is to be indicted for "treason" when he a.) is not a citizen and b.) hasn't met the definition for treason, since you are unable to expand on your allegation. Furthermore, you have failed to present a clear and demonstrable link between 'Green Cross International' and the 'Green Nazi Movement' in Germany you claim exists.

I find it amusing that you claim you like a ‘friendly’ discussion. You never discussed anything. You just started posting insults. You were never friendly or cordial.

That's because your post #12 started off with a conspiratorial presumption that America did NOT win the Cold War, which is a damnable lie. I responded with a humorous post and graphic depicting you as a tin foil hat wearing hedgetrimmer (personally created with no small effort I might add) and demonstrating exactly what I was talking about in my post #39, rather than attempt to prove the validity of your views, to produce evidence of your claims, you defaulted to mewling about 'alinsky' and my follow up response was more than appropriate. Sorry if I offended your oh-so-delicate sensitivities Madam.

Now you have to call in a ‘friend’ so you can continue your tirade, but fail to address me, which I have been told is a violation of the forum etiquette.

So bloody what? I'll ping anyone I please, and you don't have a damn thing to say about it. StephenJohnBanker and I had already been sharing a private FReepmail chuckle about you, so it was a courtesy to him. Your only response to him was that his comment "didn't make any sense". As for "violating forum etiquette" (**GASP**), I responded to SJB's post, not to you, and you can take your indignation, roll it into a fine tube, and insert it in whichever one of your orifices will accommodate it, how's that?

And oh yes: ROTATE on it.

Inviting communists into your country at taxpayer expense is like inviting a pedophile to babysit your children. Harm will be done as has been illustrated over and over again on this forum.

Now pay close attention here: WHAT DO YOU PROPOSE TO DO ABOUT IT? You keep ranting, you keep beating the drum, now tell us WHAT IS YOUR SOLUTION and HOW DO YOU INTEND TO IMPLEMENT IT?

Ending the cold war turned out to be a very bad thing for the American people. It has helped the free traitors make their communist buddies very wealthy though, I have to admit.

So what you are saying then, is that you would prefer to live in a world where the Berlin Wall never fell, Gorbachev was overthrown in that coup attempt by the military, perhaps Vladimir Putin eventually assumed the Chairmanship of the Politburo, the East European slave states of the Soviet Union remained under the control of Moscow, the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania never became free, Ceausescu in Romania was never overthrown but increased his dictatorial oppression of his people, the Ukraine (which you mentioned) remained firmly in the grip of the Soviets, and let's not forget that North Korea continued to receive substantial assistance from their Communist neighbor, and to wind this up, you believe that it would be a better world to have a fully armed and prepared Soviet nuclear arsenal maintained, and aimed at the United States?

That's the kinda world you're embracing if you think the end of the Cold War was a "very bad thing for the American people". If you really believe that, you're not just a nut, you're an EFFIN' nut!

America did NOT win the Cold War

Which is exactly why we have a marxist president, a point with which YOU agree.

If we had won, we wouldn't be giving taxpayer subsidized welfare to ousted communist dictators, we wouldn't be shipping our manufacturing sector to China to enrich the chinese communists, we wouldn't be teaching our citizens to be communists in our elementary schools, high schools and universities, we wouldn't be putting people on the supreme court who don't believe in the Constitution and changed curriculum at Harvard for law students to focus on international law.

And Madam? Where did that come from?

You're too caught up in your own ranting.

You are attempting to add 2 + 2 and expect everyone to believe that the answer is "22".

America DID win the Cold War, regardless of your delusions to the contrary, the fact that we have a Kenyan Marxist in the White House is due more to the fact that both 'Rat and RINO (formerly 'Republican') Parties are just left and liberal wings of the same political organization. The GOP nominated a total phuckwit in '08, who all but applauded 0bama and were it not for Sarah Palin, McStain would have lost in an electoral landslide. Add to that the fact that George W. Dum-Dum governed as a liberal RINO, did nothing and said nothing even mildly critical of the Kenyan Kid, and you have another reason why 0bama Mugabe is now in charge.

Now you obviously have a hard on for 'ousted communist dictators', so just for grins, who are the OTHER dictators that you contend are receiving welfare? Gorby obviously has your number because I don't have to see you on video to know that you're foaming at the mouth about him. You just might want to reassess your hatred of the guy, because if someone like Yuri Andropov or God forbid Vladimir Zhirinovsky had been in charge in the final days of the Soviet Union, there is a real possibility they might have chosen a preemptive nuclear strike on the West in a desperate attempt to preserve their own political power, as it turned out, America did win the Cold War, and we won it without firing a shot, and you can thank Ronald Reagan for that.

As for my use of the term 'Madam'?

Your own wild ranting suggested that you're a woman suffering from estrogenic exasperation.

You're too caught up in your own ranting.

Projecting again, I see.

How are you coming on that 'treason indictment' for Gorby? And have you determined just how much money ol' ink stain has "stolen" yet?

Let us know.

I will speak very slowly so that you can understand.

The cold war was to p r e v e n t communism from spreading.

It e n d e d.

Now communism is g l o b a l, and communist dictators are the nouveau riche.

Now we have a marxist communist r u n n i n g our country.

You say we won?

The Cold War was started by the now defunct Soviet Union after World War II ended.

The Soviet Union was 'Communist HQ' from the time of the original revolution in 1917 until it's collapse in 1991.

Throughout the decades of the Cold War, American Presidents took the damnable approach of 'detente' in one form or another which essentially legitimized the regime in Moscow, it took a patriot like Ronald Reagan to be elected President, and adopted the approach of "we win, they lose". And he delivered.

What you can't seem to comprehend is that the long post war struggle between the Soviet Union and the United States is what comprised the 'Cold War' and the fact that the Soviet system collapsed at the end of that struggle means that (pay close attention now) WE WON THAT CONFLICT.

Now any moron can spout about Communists here, and Communists there, and you're always going to have Communists scurrying about the globe just like cockroaches, but the Big Mama Cockroach (the Soviet Union) DIED, and you can try and paint it any way you want to, but history will not be changed just because you're crappin' your panties about Gorbachev living at the Presidio.

We may have a Marxist in the White House, but that is not the result of the Cold War ending on unfavorable terms to us. How about you just explaining to everyone just what the Hell you propose to do about this crisis of global communism that you speak of?

Please put on your thinking cap. I’m going to tell you something very important by asking a question.

Who writes the history books? Is it the winners or the losers?

Now look at the men who are behind this ‘history’ dvd.

Mikhail Gorbachev and Henry Kissinger and Ted Turner.

I’ll clarify, global communist, global socialist and global socialist.

Who won the cold war? Who is going to take their propaganda as the truth?

BTW every last one of these men want America disarmed. Gorbachev in 2005 said his benefactor country, the one that gave him his retirement home and global socialist NGO tax free, America, is sick because of our nuclear weapons.

What do you think of that? Can you comprehend what it means when the communists are writing our history for us, and putting their propaganda in the passive subversion that movies and television can create?

Please put on your thinking cap. I’m going to tell you something very important by asking a question.

Oh go for it.

Who writes the history books? Is it the winners or the losers?

I'll answer your question WITH a question: have you Googled up the term 'Cold War' to see what has been written about who won, and who lost? Or perhaps try looking up 'Reagan Doctrine' which replaced 'containment' of the Soviets with 'rollback' of Soviet influence on a global basis. Your 'winners or losers' writing history cliche' is meaningless in this instance because no cliche' is going to change history, is going to resurrect the Soviet politburo, or the masses of apparatchiks desperately trying to keep that failing Soviet military-industrial machinery running.

Now look at the men who are behind this ‘history’ dvd.
Mikhail Gorbachev and Henry Kissinger and Ted Turner.
I’ll clarify, global communist, global socialist and global socialist.

To which I say "so effin what?" The fact is, those three jokers have done nothing more than create a commercial product in a still somewhat free market, nobody is being forced to look at their DVD, nobody is being forced to accept the views and conclusions of their DVD. Is anyone holding a gun to your head and saying "believe Comrades Gorbachev, Turner & Kissinger" or else we send you on one way ticket to Gulag?"

No, I didn't think so.

Who won the cold war? Who is going to take their propaganda as the truth?

AMERICA won the Cold War, and that historical fact was established long ago. As for 'who' will accept the G, T & K DVD as truth? Some will, some won't, it will be embraced by those on the left, and utterly rejected by those with any common sense at all who will see through the propaganda.

BTW every last one of these men want America disarmed. Gorbachev in 2005 said his benefactor country, the one that gave him his retirement home and global socialist NGO tax free, America, is sick because of our nuclear weapons.

So what? It's a free country, let 'em believe what they want to believe, let them spew their propaganda. Do you think they should be shut up, censored and gagged? That doesn't sound like an American to me, that actually sounds like a crypto-Communist who wants to muzzle those who don't agree with their views.

What do you think of that? Can you comprehend what it means when the communists are writing our history for us, and putting their propaganda in the passive subversion that movies and television can create?

I think that if one DVD has created that sort of paranoia in your mind, if you believe that one DVD represents a total "writing our history for us", you might as well head for the hills and start digging yourself a bunker because Gorby, Ted and Hank are living inside your brain rent-free.

Now put on YOUR 'thinking cap' and ponder that this weekend.

Reagan Doctrine is the ‘’rollback’ of Soviet influence on a global basis.’ Is that why a Soviet is writing the history of the cold war for the consumption of the American public?

There is no ‘rollback’ of Soviet influence on a global basis, they have expanded their base to the US and are now part of the American media.

As for ‘googling’ cold war, this article and my comment, is about a group of communists producing a propaganda video about the cold war that you seem to think is A OK.

What’s in it for you, to have this country subverted to communism?

Ted Turner “I believe in total nuclear disarmament. “

Mikhail Gorbachev, former president of the Soviet Union, said Wednesday the United States was hypocritical over nuclear armaments and not prepared to disarm its own weapons.April 21, 2005

Henry Kissinger wrote “A World Free of Nuclear Weapons,”

Nuclear disarmament was a key Soviet strategy.

You absolutely are denying reality. Why?

Gorbachev is so long in the tooth he could end up embalmed in some mausoleum in San Francisco any day now, and the leftists there would be thrilled to have him. Ted Turner is a certifiable nutcase that literally gave 1 billion dollars to the U.N., and Henry Kissinger recently promised the Communist Chinese that Jeb Bush was going to be the next U.S. President.

And you suggest that I’M not in touch with reality?

You’ve let those three aging boogy men scare the bejesus out of you.

Grow up.

Here's a news flash for ya, I'm not being spoon fed a damn thing by those three dying geriatric embeciles.

YOU however appear to be going back to their all-you-can-eat buffet over and over again to fill up your plate. They don't have to spoon feed you anything, you're all too willing to let your fear of them dominate your entire life.

Now after you clean your plate, consider getting some professional help.

[The Gorbachev Institute of Psychological Health & Well Being is taking patients I understand ... LOL!!
only kidding, only kidding, don't freak out even more now ;) ]

Oh I got a million of them, say: what do you call a Soviet DVD with cryptographic protection to prevent duplication and pirating?

It's an NKVD!!! - 'NK = NO KOPY.

BWAHAHAHA!!!!!

Ted Turner ...literally gave 1 billion dollars to the U.N

Money is power. The UN is the nascent global government that Obama is literally signing our sovereignty to with the last few executive orders he's signed.

Turner is NOT harming us?

You are wasting a lot of energy trying to protect these people by complaining that they aren't doing anything, but the truth is out there for whoever wants to look for it.

I haven't led a communist country nor donated a billion to the UN nor brought communism into the government as secretary of state, but you attack ME. Your priorities are very messed up.

Go climb under your bed. When you finally decide to come out, you’ll discover that G, T & K croaked off like all mortal men are destined, and whatever they attempted to do, will have fallen way short of the mark.

You go on and live in fear. I’m going to live unafraid and place my faith in God, We The People, our Constitution and our ultimately restored Republic.

On November 15, 2006, an article written by Judi McLeod, Editor of the CanadaFreePress.com, entitled, "Nancy Pelosi: One of Mikhail Gorbachev's Most Useful Idiots," which connected the dots between Gorbachev and Pelosi was published.

It said that Gorbachev, via his "Green Cross International," devised a legal mechanism for converting American military bases to "global centers for sustainability."

This was enabled by President George Herbert Walker Bush signing of the Rio Accord at the 1992 United Nation's Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit. If you are not familiiar, it was a globalist conclave. which included 108 heads of state, and over 170 governments.

Gorbachev helped create and forward Agenda 21. This was the doctrine his Green Cross International used to coerce the conversion of military installations around the world into globalist activity centers.

I can name several right off the top of my head--the San Francisco Presidio, Fort Baker, and Fort Ord.

Gorbachev's 'brain trust' includes David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger, Ted Turner, Maurice Strong, George Soros, Bill Gates, and Oprah Winfrey. And Nancy Pelosi who though no longer house speaker, still has enormous clout in the Democratic party.

Money and power doing the work of this 'enfeebled' communist, as you put it.

No, I'm not living in fear, but I'll tell you this-- ignoring this onslaught of monied and powerful communists will not make America safe or better.

You need to step up to the plate and stop attacking loyal citizens. We are not the enemy.

And this was written after Gorbachev visited Obama in the White House in 2009:

"While historic analogies are never perfect, Obama's stark efforts to change the U.S. image abroad are reminiscent of the stunning realignments sought by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. During his short _ by Soviet standards _ tenure, he scrambled incessantly to shed the ideological entanglements that were leading the communist empire toward ruin."
Stephen R. Hurst, Associated Press

Obama coached by Gorbachev, 'realigning' the U.S. for global communism.

Well DUH, knock me over with a feather. Nancy Pelosi? Say it ain't so! (hey folks? guess what? Nancy Pelosi is a pinko commmunist sympathizer! Bet you didn't know that eh?)

You know, that sounds kinda like that whole 'New World Order' thingie that Poppy RINO used to prattle on about, (hey folks? did y'all know that Poppy Bush was a globalist, U.N. lovin' LIBERAL?!? bet you didn't know that either!)

Gorbachev helped create and forward Agenda 21. This was the doctrine his Green Cross International used to coerce the conversion of military installations around the world into globalist activity centers. "stop attacking loyal citizens"?
