Native American group: Elizabeth Warren ‘better be able to defend’ ancestry claim

A prominent Native American group says Massachusetts Senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren had “better be able to defend” her past claims of being an Indian-American minority.

The Democratic candidate is facing questions about her heritage following the revelation on Friday that she described herself as a Native American minority in professional law school directories during the 1980s and ’90s.

“Once you put that down, you better be able to defend it,” Ray Ramirez of the Native American Rights Fund told The Daily Caller on Monday.

Warren, who no longer publicly refers to herself as Native American, has disputed that she claimed Indian-American minority status then to give herself a professional advantage.

Asked for evidence of her ancestry to back up the candidate’s past statements, a Warren spokeswoman told TheDC on Monday that the campaign is “working on digging up some sort of evidence to appease” inquirers.

But the campaign hasn’t been able to immediately provide any documentation. The Boston Herald reported Friday that the Warren campaign said the “tales of Warren’s Cherokee and Delaware tribe ancestors have been passed down through family lore.”

Why should she reveal anything when our President doesn’t have to?

Pity the poor thing...she can’t even claim she laid the intellectual foundation for lying about your ancestry to milk affirmative action. Ward Churchill beat her to that.

I, unfortunately, have a dead beat 26 year old grand son who hopes to get aid for college costs by claiming American Indian ancestry. My wife’s grand mother, his G/G/Grand mother was Cherokee.

I hope he fails miserably in this effort.

I have learned that different tribes have different standards concerning who is Indian. Anywhere from 1/4 to 1/16. I don’t know what the official government standard is for an “entitlement”.

OK, she’s a lib, but it really depends on how she claimed she was a native American. When I was a child, I was told my family had a native American ancestor somewhere along the line, but it wasn’t the same deal then as it is now with the fractional blood ratings. Back then, people weren’t yet using the race card to get ahead. So maybe Ms. Warren had innocent motives back then. I can see a lib taking a lot of pride in “minority” status, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she intended to play it for what it was worth. Of course, you’d have to be pretty naive to claim minority status these days without knowing that it gives you a leg up for all sorts of government programs.

The libs want to protect her but if the Indians get riled up on fire water and chicken Biryani with too much curry and red chili powder, then she is in trouble.

As joe biden said, you can't go into a 7-11 or a dunkin donuts without and Indian accent. {Do I have the wrong Indians here? Should it be the Cleveland Indians?}

Oh Newton, I've got a giant woody.

Did you read the Daily Caller article?

Harvard University’s decision to promote Warren as a minority faculty member brought the issue front-and-center, but the Boston Herald reported Monday that Warren described herself that way when she taught at the University of Texas and the University of Pennsylvania.

American law school directories listed Warren as a minority professor for nine years before Harvard scooped her up, and Harvard apparently used that information to promote her as a minority, the Herald first reported Friday. (RELATED: More on Elizabeth Warren)

A lot of us have family lore abut indian ancestors. And I suspect that such stories are usually true for those large numbers of Americans whose ancestors were here long before independence. But it takes that special leftist nerve to convert family lore into a fact.

Her great great grandfather was nick named named “Buffalo Droppings” at the local tavern.

So she assumed he was an Indian. Who wouldn’t?

the campaign is “working on digging up some sort of evidence to appease” inquirers.

While they're at it, perhaps they could "dig up" some evidence to appease Obama's inquirers, as well.
