Documents reveal al Qaeda's plans for seizing cruise ships, carnage in Europe
CNN ^ | May 1, 2012 | Nic Robertson, Paul Cruickshank and Tim Lister

Investigative journalist Yassin Musharbash, a reporter with the German newspaper Die Zeit, was the first to report on the documents. One plan: to seize passenger ships. According to Musharbash, the writer "says that we could hijack a passenger ship and use it to pressurize the public." Musharbash takes that to mean that the terrorists "would then start executing passengers on those ships and demand the release of particular prisoners." The plan would include dressing passengers in orange jump suits, as if they were al Qaeda prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, and then videotaping their execution.

We're due to cruise the Mediterranean next week and I'm fighting my internal fear. My heart tells me to not let these murderers change my life...but my head wonders if I'm absolutely insane. This article, coupled with another article reporting about them trying to take over airliners (American based, preferably) coming into the US (here:http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/officials-fear-terrorists-body-bombs-us-bound-planes/story?id=16245827#.T5_nIelYuLM )....also coupled with the heightened awareness of possible attacks for the anniversary of osama's killing has me very skiddish. To say the least. Any words of wisdom on this?

As someone who takes two to three cruises a year (we also do the Mediterranean in June-July) I have always wondered since 9-11 when the a-hole terrorist would go after the cruise industry. However that does not stop me from cruising any more than driving on the freeway after reading about all the horrific accidents that happen there.

I do watch other people, not only on the ships, but also in stores, restaurants, etc. I try to be aware of my surroundings and act accordingly.

I do not live in fear of anything (except my wife catching me eating her chocolates).

Please enjoy your trip (and leave some of the food for us).

Hmmm

Well, you are right, you can't live your life in fear.

On the other hand, you must take what are reasonable safety precautions at all times.
Makes a rather tough decision doesn't it? Safety or unwillingness to "kow-tow" to the enemy.

Choose wisely my friend, and live your life the best you can.

Probably your chances of having disaster strike while driving on the freeway or even within one mile of home (which is where most accidents occur) is far, far greater than your chance of being on a cruise ship that gets hijacked.

Just be prudent and vigilant. If something doesn’t feel right to you, listen to your first instinct and get out of there or go for help. Remember, the captain and crew want to get home again, too, so they’ll be more alert also.

Go and have a good time.

We shouldn't overrate the intelligence of these inbred and primitive minds.

When 911 happened, I always wondered why the terrorists focused on airplanes instead of cruise ships, holidays, etc. If I were a terrorist, I'd go after the ships and a lot of other things, like sporting events.

But I've come to believe that these feeble and diseased brains of Islam are also infantilized and infatuated with flying toys...and think that mastering the toys makes them somehow "angels of judgement."

Exactly right. I keep saying I refuse to change my life because of these killers. Yet, here I am faced with multiple reports targeting my itinerary directly and I see no way to take “reasonable safety precautions” other than being aware of my surroundings. I thank you for your calming words. I’m still freaking out though! I totally HATE these POS!

“listen to your first instinct and get out of there ..”

Maybe this is what has me on edge the most. In both an airplane AND a ship, you can’t just get out of there! Talk about a captive audience! And these murderers know it all too well.

Perhaps next time the muzzie terrorists take innocent hostages, we should just pull out 1,000 Palestinians for each hostage and shoot them, if the hostage is killed.

As long as they want to decouple the issue, we might as well go all the way. Maybe we can blow up a well known mosque for each victim as well.

The punitive warfare books might need to get reopened. Forget about holding ground, converting them, etc. Just punish them.

I really don’t want to scuttle these plans. We’ve been so looking forward to it. I don’t equate this to driving on the freeway where I have at least a semblance of control of my destiny. These are closed environments, with no control of my surroundings. If a solitary murdering muslim decides to kill the pigs, who are of course completely unarmed!...

I promise that if we do go on with our plans....I’ll leave you chocolate! LOL

Of course, I agree with you a zillion percent. Unfortunately, this country’s elites (and lots of followers!) have become so pussified that none of that will EVER happen! We’ll just continue to bow to our enemies. It’s the subservient thing to do nowadays.

I simply refuse to trap myself within a confined environment where I can’t have some control over my circumstances. Even if that control is illusory, having the means of self-defense provides me more peace of mind than groveling before some terrorists.

The odds are in your favor going on a safe cruise, but everything in life is a calculated risk. Weigh the costs vs. benefits and then decide.
