“It's not as bifurcated as male and female, again it will depend on how you define gender inclusive or gender neutral communities, so again we're too early in the process to say what it's going to look like or how we will define it,” said Hemlata Jhaveri, director of Residence Law at UT.
According to Jhaveri, the discussion to allow men and women to co-habitate in the same campus dorm rooms began early this spring when a campus group called STANDOUT, advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender student rights, approached the Residence Hall Association with the request.

Years/decades ago UT had university approved housing, including off campus housing, but when the Civil Rights Act was passed they had to abandon the off campus housing because university approved housing would have had to have been integrated.
So off campus housing became coed previously. I don't recall when, only as you say "years ago".
I don’t think this will happen, i.e., allowing men and women to share the same room.
And as someone who lives in Austin, y’all have a really distorted view of this town. Do you only hang around 6th St. when you come to town?
don’t most colleges have co-ed dorms these days anyway? You pay for your daughter to cohabitate with a guy.

During the filming of that movie Don Johnson was really banging a 14 year old wasn’t he? He was worse than his character.
Liberals refer to college students as “men and women”, interestingly when referring to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan the liberals call them kids....
They kept babying Johnny Jihad (remember him?) and referring to him as just a kid.
UT doesn’t have “same room” coed dorms, yet. There are dorm buildings, like Jester which is the largest, which have male floors and female floors with each floor key coded so people can’t wander willy nilly. The problem with this push for “same room” coed is coming from the gays and the building they’re after is Kinsolving, a female only dorm, which is one of the two next largest dorms. The other large dorm is where the athletes reside and they know better than to touch thatt but going after Kinsolving is showing how hard they’re after this.
