One guy says a pair of batting gloves are on his list .. indicative of the proper attitude !

Am only halfway thru the comments on the NATO Countdown page, but so far this is my favorite:

You must keep yourself safe

- 300 rounds of extra ammo
- knife
- back-up pistol (same caliber - so you can use same ammo)
- water
- second pair of socks
- long flashlight (doubles as a club)
- big can of hornet spray (poor man's mace alternative)
- attitude
