BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police say a 13-year-old robbery suspect was shot and killed by the person he tried to rob in Birmingham Friday night.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office confirms the teen's identity as Jaqures Cortez Walker of Birmingham. He was a 7th grade student at Martha Gaskin Middle School and the quarterback for the football team, according to a family member.

BPD Sgt. Johnny Williams said the teen suspect approached a couple as they pulled into their home at the gated Skyview Condominiums in the 400 block of Skyview Drive around 11:10pm. Friday, April 27. Skyview Drive is off Robert Jemison Road. The suspect had a T-shirt over his face like a bandana and was holding a cocked and loaded gun, Williams said.

Police say the would-be robber approached the male occupant of the car and told him to "Get out and give it up." The man had his own gun in the car and shot the teenager. The teen ran a few feet, collapsed and died at the scene, Williams said.

At 13 I was 6 feet tall and 150 lbs, hardly a defenseless kid. I’m sure that the media will try to portray this junior thug as a “good kid,” but good kids don’t pull guns on people and rob them. He was probably raised in the entitlement mentality, and that he was a victim. His parents are totally at fault here. I’ve known 7 year olds who watch violent videos and movies that glorify this behavior. When they pose for a picture they flash gang signs and imitate thug behavior they’ve seen. Jesse and Al will Trayvonize this situation, but I always say that when a person commits a felony, they do so at their own risk.

He was a 7th grade student at Martha Gaskin Middle School and the quarterback for the football team,

On track for a career in the National Felons League ...

"Get out and give it up."

Little filth deserved to die miserably, choking on his own blood and soiling his panties.

Too bad we can't make his miscreant parents watch the videotape of the whole event, from attempted robbery to ignominious death, several times a day, every day, for the rest of their wretched lives.

Make all his ever-lovin' homeez watch it, too.

No doubt saved a few lives of potential victims who would have somehow annoyed this “child” or didn’t move quickly enough. “You got it, I want it, and I’m taking it with this gun”. Wonder what Jesse Jackson’s reaction would be in this situation? He who said he was relieved when the faces of the footsteps behind him at night turned out to be white. His words, not mine.

In another article on this subject, the kid's mother said he left his house by getting into a car with some friends.

I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be a gang initiation robbery gone wrong.

Wouldn't this make him fourteen, nearly fifteen when he was killed?

Too bad being a street thug doesn’t qualify you for a Darwin Award, but good news, you CAN get a Nobel Peace Prize!

Math is racist.

Who should care about what he looked like? How many of us have been burned by a good looking person?

My bottom line - the man pointed a GUN at another person and appeared to willing to KILL him for what he wanted to gain. That's right folks the person who died was willing to kill first.

Age had nothing to do with the issue.

Proof of statement — look at the number of armed, deadly, and quite willing to kill youth out and about in the world. Even the UN has campaigns against “child soldiers”. Those who walked the jungles in the 1960s and are walking the deserts today will tell you that an armed youth can and will kill just as dead as an armed adult. Why should the youth of America be any different?

I have read and heard people say all my life that participating in sports builds character.

But, in their defense, they did not specify which character, good or bad.

Again, in defense of the "robber", he probably did not consider that what he was doing was wrong. He only knew, from hearing it all his life form numerous sources, that he was entitled. He understod that the man had it and he wanted it. In his [the robber's]mind, he was only taking what rightfully was his.

It took awhile but we are beginning to reap the seeds that were sown long ago.
