Newt's campaign is deep in debt. I believe he is suspending, not ending, his campaign for the same reason that Rick Santorum did: A suspended campaign can still raise money. They can still leverage their delegates at the convention to get favorable language to conservatives in the platform and/or ensure a conservative, not a RINO, is put in the Veep slot.

Thanks for explaining that. I can tell he is going to try to make a difference in whatever capacity he can.

Newt Gingrich to endorse Mitt Romney
by John Hayward
05/01/2012

In an interview with USA Today, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said that he will endorse former rival Mitt Romney after he formally suspends his own candidacy, and will actively campaign for Romney. Gingrich also said Romney would help him retire his campaign debt.

... Gingrich offered Romney some hard-won respect in his USA Today interview:

“Mitt Romney met the first criteria of being a good candidate: He won,” Gingrich said. “Now, you have to respect that.”
