Lugar, Mourdock in Dead Heat in New Poll
National Journal ^ | May 2, 2012 | Sean Sullivan

Posted on 05/02/2012 7:52:47 PM PDT by Qbert

Sen. Richard Lugar and Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock are in a dead heat according to a poll released Wednesday that was conducted for the Lunch Pail Republicans, a pro-labor group that announced its support for Lugar on the same day.

Lugar leads Mourdock 44 percent to 42 percent, separation that is within the margin of error. Fourteen percent of respondents said they were undecided.

The live-caller poll was conducted entirely on Tuesday. One-day polls typically arouse a bit more skepticism than surveys conducted over the course of several days.

But most observers expect a close election and the findings of the survey is consistent with that line of thought.

A Wenzel Strategies poll conducted in late April for the pro-Mourdock Citizens United Political Victory Fund showed Mourdock leading Lugar 44 percent to 39 percent.

The Magellan Strategies poll of 400 likely Indiana Republican primary voters was conducted for the Lunch Pail Republicans on May 1 and carries a margin of error of +/- 4.9 percentage points.

Since undecideds tend to break toward the challenger, it sounds like Lugar is in trouble. </fingerscrossed>

Polls always under estimate conservative voters in polls.

If it’s tied now, my money is on Mourdock.

McCain endorsed Lugar as did Arlen Spector..two big rinos. I would not be surprised if Rove isn't pulling for Lugar too.
http://advanceindiana.blogspot.com/2012/03/arlen-specter-endorses-lugar.html
Politico broke a story about Sen. Lugar being forced to repay to the U.S. Treasury illegal travel reimbursements he had taken for his return trips to Indiana while falsely claiming to reside at a home he sold 35 years ago. To top it off, former Senator Arlen Specter, a Republican-turned-Democrat before his primary election defeat in 2010, endorsed his re-election during a call-in show on C-SPAN this morning. Could the day get any worse for Lugar?

I got into it with someone at work who said he thinks he’s going to vote for Lugar. I asked him why. He said Lugar has done alot for Indiana. I asked what he’s done. Needless to say there were no good answers, so I jumped all over it. He didn’t even know Lugar has not lived in Indiana for decades!

We have one more Mourdock voter on board now. On my job I spweak to anywhere from 90 to 400 people a day (depends how busy). From what I’m hearing Mourdock is going to do very well.

I called Lugar once and told him I was going to do my best to see it is his last term. He told me “if you think you can do better then do it” and hung-up on me. I think I’ll call him again when he loses. :)

Thirty five years is thirty five years to long!

“Romney loves him too...can’t get more Rino than that.”

Here, here! And while we’ll all hold our collective noses while we vote for Romney, since he is the only alternative, there is no such requirement in Lugar’s election.

Romney would do well to heed the lessons therein. Go Mourdock!!!

This is more good news. I longtime incumbent who is polling below 50% in a primary is more likely than not to lose a two-man race.

Speak for yourself, Bshaw.

I have other plans on election day that do not involve giving a nod to a flip flopping, dishonorable, non Conservative, lying, mean spirited Bishop.

Maybe Olympia Snowe will support him too. The political fights to remove the rinos is getting tougher and tougher. Pray he is defeated and am also praying for Gov Walker in Wisconsin. Hatch may be voted out too...Tea party folks are fighting mad

Interesting bit of info Kate.... Hopefully Lugar will be history...and no surprise the good old boys are in his court.

We’re going to have great fun taking these guys out....they don’t realize when they endorse one of the good old boys it just tells us they’re all trying to keep their jobs...but in doing so targeting themselves as next to go!

Caww, can't you feel the unrest among conservatives? there is a strong undercurrent and the GOP presidential primaries are just one example.
One good thing came out of this years battle for president..I have learned not to trust people I used to hold in high regard. Referring to many on Fox News especially.

I don’t think Lugar loses this.

Name recognition too high, and the ads he’s been running against Mourdock are ABSOLUTELY VISCIOUS...

It’s too bad this guy can’t find those kind of stones and rhetoric to use against Obama, but he can against another R.

A poll by a pro-labor group who supports Lugar. Gee, I’ll bet that’s a fair, balanced poll. /sarc

A lot of good Mourdock ads on this radio station http://www.wibc.com/ Has Greg Garrison at 9:00 AM and Rush at noon. The Garrison show mixes local and national news. Has the Breitbart Bigs on a lot.

Oh definitely....that's because we are sensing an unseen war being fought for the hearts and minds of this nation.

When you have "Ayers" proclaiming it's over...and a New World is coming"...you pretty much can tell the enemy of men's very souls is on the rise. All the creeps will be coming out of the woodwork in the months ahead.

The Democrats are perfectly happy if Romney gets this...and sadly enough some of the conservatives are getting in line....our war was lost with the Primary...everything else which occurs now is the drum beat for the New World Order.....and Romney is one who will unite the wealthier nations, and their monetary venues, now that Obama has given away the bank to the poorer nations.

I'm surprised people are not seeing the steps being taken...they aren't hiding it anymore.
