The Chinese dissident at the centre of a diplomatic storm has told the ABC he now believes he and his family are in danger in China and he wants the United States government to get him out of the country.
That's despite a deal between Beijing and Washington under which he left the US embassy in Beijing last night in return for guarantees of his safety.
But Chen Guangcheng, who's in hospital in Beijing, says he now knows more about the danger he faces in China.

Certainly those are not his words. I understand he had been a political prisoner just before seeking protection from the US Embassy. He is a well known dissident and surely knows well he and his family are in serious danger - before now..

Even Obama won’t bite the hand that feeds him. I feel sorry for Chen. He all believes in the Old America. He doesn’t understand that the New America is almost identical to China, just less capitalist.
US embassies these days are intended to inflame the locals by holding “gay pride” celebrations, not by aiding anti-abortionists.

I see the twist in this statement. Very deft, and very true. Nothing will change in November either, however it plays out.
