Dixwell Avenue in New Haven is a place that you generally do not want to stop on at night, and you certainly don’t want to turn right or left off of. I used to live just North of Newhallville ((shudder)).

I used to live just North of Newhallville ((shudder)).My Grampa lived on Dixwell Ave, north end in Hamden. As soon as you crossed the city border between Hamden and New Haven, you could see the difference. I'm talking the late 60's and early 70's.
Haven't been back for over 22 years.

In my “dumber days” I would frequently take walks from my apartment closer to downtown up Whalley Ave. to visit my girlfriend who was at that time a student at SCSU.
