Thanks for this thread - I work with a bunch of people who are thirty years younger than me. They have no concept of what this Nation means or what it took to bring it to pass. No concept of what it will take to preserve it in the face of the attacks now being made on it.
When I was a child, I was fearful for what was to become of us. The Russians beat us into space and there was the dreaded "Missile Gap."
I am in much greater fear now, because I believe that our populace has lost its way. I don't believe that the young people coming into putative adulthood now have a clue as to why this Nation, after almost a quarter-millennium, is free. I'm fearful that the
Fourth Estate Fifth Columnists of our valiant media have totally sold us out. I'm fearful that our pols of both major parties have been more concerned with their own aggrandizement than with the interests of their constituents.
Sorry to rant on like this. I probably won't have to live long with the wages of all this. It's my children I fear for. They're being consigned to a life as subjects rather than citizens. I grieve for them. End of rant.
