Poll: Lugar trails Mourdock by 10 points
The Hill ^ | May 4, 2012 | Cameron Joseph

Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.) is 10 points behind his primary opponent, according to a new nonpartisan poll, making it highly unlikely he'll win Tuesday's contest.

Lugar trails Indiana state Treasurer Richard Mourdock (R) 48 percent to 38, according to a poll released Friday from Howey Politics Indiana and DePauw University. That is Mourdock's largest lead in any poll conducted of the race, including those by groups backing him.

This is the latest — and biggest — bad sign for the six-term incumbent: The poll is considered the most accurate in the state. Lugar already has seen a major outside group pull funding from his campaign, another sign that even allies of Lugar don't think he can be saved at this point.

In their previous poll, conducted in late March, Lugar held a seven-point edge. Since then, outside groups have spent heavily on television for both candidates — and the attacks on Lugar seem to be sticking better.

The live-caller poll of 700 likely Republican primary voters was conducted on April 30 and May 1 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percent.

Well, I guess this’ll make RINO Richard available to saddle up as Mittens’ running mate!

This is excellent news. The vote is in four days and all signs are pointing towards a Mourdock victory.

Hopefully a sign of good things to come, including making up for what happened here in 2008 for the first time since 1964.

I support voting everyone out! In CA we are stuck wit the worst two but even my congressman needs to go.

A reliable vote for conservative issues but, no sponsorship of anything to reduce government.

He has been in office for 12 years and never stopped anything.

BTW, here is a lesson in stupidity — if the RINO Lugar wasn’t such a prissy prima donna, he could have resigned two years ago and had Mitch ordain his successor, who likely would be winning the primary handily.

So long Dick! No crying for Lugar - he's going to enjoy a very lucrative pension, at taxpayer cost.

Rush is talking about Mourdock right now. Talking about TEA Party / full fledged press to get our candidates in office, with great success. Will talk more after break.

I say again, here in WI we’re in the fight of our lives, too for Gov. Walker.

Primary May 8
ReCall Election June 5

We sure are proud of Gov. Walker - We can use your support and your prayers for Mourdock AND our terrific Gov. Walker.

Amen to these small steps back to sanity.

This is great news, I gave Mourdock a small donation about a month ago and I'll give him another one today so he can really pour the ads on.

Retire Lugar and then on to eye-da-hoe, and the hatch.

Don't forget WI and the recall elections and how much we need the good guys to win.

No, pure and simple it is Lugar’s votes: he’s proven to be a liberal, and Hoosiers do not accept that and his lies (in his adverts).
