California Democrat confuses Solyndra with electric car company
By Daniel Strauss - 05/05/12 12:37 PM ET
Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.) confused failed solar energy firm Solyndra with the electric car company Tesla.
"I wish I had enough expense allowance to get one of those new S's that Solyndra's going to make down there - the electric car," Stark said in a Saturday report by the San Francisco Chronicle, after being asked about the defunct solar energy company. "They run $60,000 to $90,000."
Solyndra fell under scrutiny after failing despite recieving a guaranteed $535 million low-interest loan from the Obama administration. House Republicans have been investigating for more than a year to prove the White House pushed the Department of Energy into quickly making the loan.
The 80-year old Democrat's comments came as he seeks a 21st term in Congress. Stark's comments aren't the first that have raised eyebrows and caught attention lately.
In April, during a debate for the Democratic nomination accused opponent Eric Swalwell of taking bribes in the "hundreds of thousands of dollars." Stark also accused a conservative Chronicle columnist of giving money to Swalwell's campaign. In both cases Stark has had to walk back the remarks.
That's a shame.
A senile career criminal? I’d say he is a good representative of his district, he’s as uninformed as those who voted for him the last 19 times.
Fortney will be Fortney
Time to hang it up, Pete.
'Cmon all you greedy rich taxpayer b@stards.....expense the guy his electric car already!
Pete F is a profane, senile, and rude old man.
And, oddly, he's been all of the above for forty years.
