France chooses a new president during tough times
By GREG KELLER | Associated Press 4 mins 30 secs ago
PARIS (AP) France voted in a presidential run-off election on Sunday that could see Socialist challenger Francois Hollande defeat incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy by capitalizing on public anger over the government's austerity policies.
The election outcome will impact efforts to fight France's debt crisis, how long the nation's troops stay in Afghanistan and how France exercises its military and diplomatic muscle around the world.
Hollande voted in his electoral fief of Tulle, in central France. Live television coverage showed the 57-year-old politician shaking hands and chatting with voters on his way into the polling station.
"It's going to be a long day," Hollande told reporters gathered to watch him vote. "It's up to the French people to decide if it's going to be a good day," he said.

Hussein's dream.
There was a treaty signed by the US a couple of years ago that defined any states seeking to lower their income tax below a certain level as a rogue state. Does onyone remember the specifics?
"It was the most memorable time of my life. It was a touching moment because I never thought this day would ever happen. I won't have to worry about putting gas in my car. I won't have to worry about paying my mortgage. You know, if I help him, he's gonna help me."
Hollande has promised more government spending and higher taxes including a 75-percent income tax on the rich...
Feh, why not just take it all, then everyone would
want to succeed. /s.
Socialists, Baaah.
So the 50% who don’t work pay no taxes and the rest
are slaves to the state. Makes sense in a Marxian
kind of way. And naturally the government posts will
be filled with people from the 50%.

and monied-French planning to move to UK
Mmm — so what’s happenin’ in Greek elections? UK can only handle so many.
The Sheep, especially the immigrant sheep, were promised Unicorns and free schit from the Socialists for a generation, and by god, they WANT THEIR FREE SH*T!
There is NO WAY this ends well....
In other words the economy of France is guaranteed to fail, taking the rest of Europe with it.
First a law will be passed that no one who wants to move out of France can take more than $10,000 or so in currency and goods with them. Then they’ll pass the 75% income tax on the rich. If you leave the country, all your wealth defaults to France. Castro will be proud.
I’m waiting to see how many of the Hollywood liberals who always threaten to move to France if a Republican wins the White House, actually do so.
FRANCE24 BREAKING NEWS: French voter participation at 71.96% at 5pm, interior ministry says
France’s interior ministry says voter participation reached 71.96% at 5pm Paris time on Sunday as Socialist favourite François Hollande challenges President Nicolas Sarkozy in a tight run-off vote.
Peggy - is that you? Peggy? How is “Hope and Change” going? Not well? Peggy?
If France goes socialist watch their economy tank. The wealthy are already leaving rather than face a 75% tax rate and France is already broke. I expect within a year after a socialist government take over in France the Euro will crumble.
Good one! ;)
Whatever happened to Peggy? Is she living in a rathole somewhere, angry at Obama for not paying her mortgage or forking over other people’s money to pay $4/gallon gasoline to put in her junk car so she can go job-hunting yet again?
Or is she quietly content, sitting before her plasma television, waiting to go to her afternoon nail appointment followed by a little grocery shopping courtesy of her EBT card? Then a return home to cook some filet mignon while eagerly anticipating the government check(s) that will be in tomorrow’s mail?
I wonder.
Merkel has to be wetting her pants over this one. Germany is almost single handedly propping up the Euro. If France goes the way of Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Ireland, Germany will probably have no choice but to abandon the Euro to save itself.
There is some election in Germany today too, that is supposed to be a harbinger for Merkel’s popularity. I don’t know what it is — maybe a local province or something. Have you heard?
Johnny Depp lives over there. Let's see if he comes scurrying back home.
In the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein.
Result: Merkel’s CDU barely strongest party by less than 1% over the “center-left” SPD. No majority together with their small coalition party, the business-oriented FDP. Too soon to say what type of coalition will come out of this.
PS: On a positive note, the hard-left Linke didn’t even come close to taking the 5% limit that must be passed to gain parliament seats.
But this matters little, as the socialist has just won over Sarkozy in France. Bye-bye euro!
Remember after Sarkozy was elected, the idiots in this country elected the opposite?
Hopefully that will happen again.
