I believe you are correct. (but your memory could still be fading)...how about this... I’m fairly sure it was Larry Hovis’ car that Goober was trying to fix. (Carter from ‘Hogan’s Heroes’)

The genius of that show was that Andy was truly the only adult in town. And he never made a mistake, never did one wrong thing. He was strong, wise and kind.

There was a time when virtue was recognized as good and not despised and ridiculed.

btw, my favorite Goober episode was when he grew a beard and Floyd made him into a great thinker. Drove everyone in town crazy with spouting psuedo-intellectual blather, until Andy got him back down to earth.

Gomer Pyle USMC RULED. Goober's episode was one of the weaker ones though. I never liked The Andy Griffith character or show. I thought he was incredibly patronizing and condescending to Barney Fife. But he was a good "dad" to Opie.

BTW, I had no idea that Andy and Barney were cousins.

Agreed. That why I bought the 5 seasons of DVDs of Gomer Pyle from Amazon. My young kids LOVE that show. They love it when Carter screams at Pyle (- maybe reminds them of their old man?) Too bad there is nothing like it on TV nowadays.

Best episode of Gomer Pyle: When Sgt. Hacker bets Carter that he can’t go 24 hours without yelling at Pyle. Carter finally drives way off into the desert and screams his head off. I nearly pee myself every time I see it.
Frank Sutton= genius.

They have quite a few self-promoting commercials using the same “cut and paste” from many other shows too. Good stuff ...

Hawaii 5-0 is a classic and one of my all time favorites.
So much so that I've never watched a single minute of the new 5-0. No way it could be even half as good, let alone better.
The rest of those shows all seem to have been filmed in a closet, use the same stilted dialog and really asinine plots ... over and over.
I liked them back in the day. Oh well.

I watched maybe a quarter of the pilot of the reworked one and didn’t care for it.

Until Me-TV came around and me home on some weekdays to my rotating job schedule every few weeks, I started watching McGarrett & co. I finally appreciate it, esp. the writing.

Somewhere around here I have the old soundtrack I pulled off of a usergroup many years ago.

If I am home on a weekday, 10-12 is booked for Perry Mason, Cannon, and 5-0.

Me-TV has gotten me to appreciate the Big Valley and gotten me requainted with Kojak.

Thanks. I have a dial-up connection and it took me nearly half an hour to download only a small portion of it but that is definitely the same thing I heard on the radio nearly 60 years ago.

Interesting! I just watched that episode today with my kids! Looked like Carter was gonna rupture an aneurysm trying to keep it all in. My kids love how Gomer is so transparent and without guile. Truly a fantastic show! I think my favorite show about Pyle is actually the Mayberry lead-in to that show (the show is not yet Gomer Pyle USMC), a black and white production, where Andy drops off Gomer at boot camp - where Gomer meets Carter for the first time - its an absolute (and literal) scream!

I remember him (Morris) on an episode of “The Dick Van Dyke Show”.

I think he played an artist, but still a weird character.
