Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one man injured after he broke into a home inside a gated community in Pembroke Pines on Sunday, police said.
Around 9:30 a.m., 22-year-old Clifford Atis, a tenant living in a Pembroke Pines gated community, was woken up by the sounds of intruders inside of his home at 12021 SW 14th Street, the Pembroke Pines Police Department said.
Police said those intruders were 23-year-old Wendell Rozier and another unknown man, while a third unknown man waited in a white Pontiac Grand Prix outside.
The men's plans to burglarize the home were foiled, though, when the tenant shot one of them in the leg, officials said.
The would-be burglars made a run for it, hoping into the white car, police said. They drove for a couple of blocks but eventually two of the men took off running, leaving the car and the injured suspect behind, according to a report.
