The boss sounds like a huge jerk, I’d be calling this sexual harassment and assault on top of things. No one has the right to disrobe an employee - and as the headscarf was a piece of clothing, this was a forced disrobing with the intent to humiliate and intimidate. The fact that he wasn’t fired from AT&T for this act - alone - means that AT&T needed some monitary incentive to force managment to behave in a civilized manner.

Perhaps $5 Million will cause AT&T to re-visit their policies on bosses assaulting employees.

The fact that she was Muslim has no bearing. If she was undergoing cancer treatment and wore a scarf to hide her bald head - the act is the same in maliciousness. If she were a man and had knocked a few teeth out - she would have been fired for assault. Thus, this was very much an AT&T supported enviroment of management hostility.

Unfortunately, many companies refuse to consider policies in line with what most people expect to be a lesson we all learn in Kindergarten. When this fails, the courts step in.

She just happens to be the ‘lucky’ recipient of a lesson that needed to be taught to a large company.

“The boss sounds like a huge jerk,”

Boss and employee later split the proceeds.

Sounds like the makings of a great scam.

What makes you think that the boss is a man?

The boss sounds like a huge jerk,...

Sounds like a lot of 'management' that I ran into while working for AT&T after the split.
