I must say that sometime after reading that line I put down the book. I guess it wasn't my taste. But, something about it drove me to purchase it in the first place.

I know “Dahlgren” is his big hit, so to speak. I don’t think I ever read it. I do have a book of his short stories, and yes, he starts to sort of wear you out after a while.

He’s a good writer though, he doesn’t shy away from being smart (in several senses of the word), as your quote shows.
