Putin opts out of G-8 summit, cancels meeting with Obama

Just days after reclaiming the Russian presidency, Vladimir Putin has canceled his planned visit to the United States, where he'd been scheduled to attend a major economic summit and meet with President Obama.

The White House confirmed in a statement late Wednesday that Putin told Obama on a phone call he'd be sending Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in his place. Putin claimed he was too busy finalizing cabinet appointments to make the May 18-19 G-8 Summit at Camp David. Yet the Obama administration had moved the gathering to the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland from the planned venue in Chicago partly to accommodate Putin.

Whether or not the schedule change marked an intentional snub, the let-down comes less than a week after the nation's military chief of staff warned that Russia would consider preemptive strikes, if a dispute with the United States over a Europe-based missile defense system worsens.

That’s too bad, now we won’t get to hear Obama giving away U.S. state secrets to the President of Russia.

Kind of reminiscent of the Japanese diplomats being called back in early December of 1941.

Putin knows when to distance himself. Why enter into negotiations with a person who will be out of office in nine months?

Clearly a snub of Obama. It could not be any more clear if the reason given were that Putin was too busy rearranging the furniture in his office and ordering new drapes.

The alpha male has to establish his dominance. Putin has gladly peed on Obama's leg, and all that Obama will do in return is meekly hand over to Russia a "reset button" along with the secrets of our missile defense and nuclear deterrent.

After all, Obama wants to be as flexible and servile as he can be...

There are Russian troops going to Colorado for “training”. A couple hundred or a few thousand depending on who you believe.

Just analyzing the pic of those Russian soldiers in front of McD’s.

The dude on the right doesn’t exactly look like a Spec Ops candidate. And what’s with the goofy looking rocket perched on top of the tank?

The rocket is supposed to be an SA-3 Sagger anti-tank missile, which was typically mounted in that location on the Soviet BMP-1, which would be period correct for this film.

Are you suggesting that "Red Dawn" wasn't realistic?
