Mitt Romney’s prep school classmates recall pranks, but also troubling incidents
Washington Post ^ | 05-10-12 | Jason Horowitz

Mitt Romney returned from a three-week spring break in 1965 to resume his studies as a high school senior at the prestigious Cranbrook School. Back on the handsome campus, studded with Tudor brick buildings and manicured fields, he spotted something he thought did not belong at a school where the boys wore ties and carried briefcases. John Lauber, a soft-spoken new student one year behind Romney, was perpetually teased for his nonconformity and presumed homosexuality. Now he was walking around the all-boys school with bleached-blond hair that draped over one eye, and Romney wasn’t having it.

“He can’t look like that. That’s wrong. Just look at him!” an incensed Romney told Matthew Friedemann, his close friend in the Stevens Hall dorm, according to Friedemann’s recollection. Mitt, the teenaged son of Michigan Gov. George Romney, kept complaining about Lauber’s look, Friedemann recalled.

A few days later, Friedemann entered Stevens Hall off the school’s collegiate quad to find Romney marching out of his own room ahead of a prep school posse shouting about their plan to cut Lauber’s hair. Friedemann followed them to a nearby room where they came upon Lauber, tackled him and pinned him to the ground. As Lauber, his eyes filling with tears, screamed for help, Romney repeatedly clipped his hair with a pair of scissors.

I attended a church based summer camp as a kid. There was one boy with blond curly hair that all the girls in my cabin swooned over. But, sometime during camp his hair was noticibly shorter. One of the boys in camp told me that he was wore curlers in his hair at night. Finally the other guys had enough and they cut his curlers right off his head.

Folks ask why the media goes so deeply into Romney’s past yet didn’t and won’t vett little barry bastard commie. The answer is actually simple: Obama’s past was fabricated to create an image, and anyone digging into the fabric of lies is threatened or eliminated. These thugs are deadly serious about keeping little barry bastard in power.

I guess I’d be in trouble because I played “Smear the Queer” in elementary school.

Was the coach named Jerry Sandusky by any chance?

well, it’s different what you are talking about
yeah, bullying somebody is totally different than making out in a car, forging hall passes and throwing cheerleader in the snow. You didn’t throw her cause you wanted to teach her a lesson, it was high jinx right?

Gary Hummel, who was a closeted gay student at the time, recalled that his efforts to speak out in class were punctuated with Romney shouting, “Atta girl!”

ROFL!!! I'm sure THAT'S the first time that ever happened.

When you compare Romney's record of academic achievement to Obama's, it is no contest. Romney has been successful at every level. A star really. Let's see what Obama's grades were or his SATs or LSAT's.

Romney attended Stanford University for a year, where he worked as a night security guard to fund secret trips home to see Ann. Although the campus was becoming radicalized with the beginnings of 1960s social and political movements, Romney kept a well-groomed appearance and enjoyed traditional campus events.

In July 1966, Romney left for 30 months in France as a Mormon missionary. Missionary work was a traditional rite of passage that his father and many other relatives had volunteered for.

In Nantes, Romney suffered a bruised jaw while defending two female missionaries who were being bothered by a group of local rugby players. He continued to work hard; having grown up in Michigan rather than the more insular Utah world, Romney was better able to interact with the French. He was promoted to zone leader in Bordeaux in early 1968, then in the spring of that year became assistant to the mission president in Paris, the highest position for a missionary. In the Mission Home in Paris he enjoyed palace-like accommodations. Romney's support for the U.S. role in the Vietnam War was only reinforced when the French greeted him with hostility over the matter and he debated them in return.

In June 1968, an automobile Romney was driving in southern France was hit by another vehicle, seriously injuring him and killing one of his passengers, the wife of the mission president.[nb 6] Romney, who was not at fault in the accident,[nb 6] became co-acting president of a mission demoralized and disorganized by the May civil disturbances and by the car accident. Romney rallied and motivated the others and they met an ambitious goal of 200 baptisms for the year, the most for the mission in a decade. By the end of his stint in December 1968, Romney was overseeing the work of 175 fellow members. Romney developed a lifelong affection for France and its people, and speaks French.

At Ann's request, Romney began attending Brigham Young too, in February 1969. The couple were married on March 21, 1969, in a civil ceremony at Ann's family's home in Bloomfield Hills that was presided over by a church elder.

At culturally conservative BYU, Romney continued to be separated from much of the upheaval of the era, and did not join in those protests that did occur against the war or the LDS Church's policy at the time of denying full membership to blacks.

He became president of, and an innovative fundraiser for, the all-male Cougar Club booster organization and showed a new-found discipline in his studies. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with highest honors in 1971, and gave commencement addresses to both his own College of Humanities and to the whole university.

Romney became one of only fifteen students to enroll at the recently created joint Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration four-year program coordinated between Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School. Fellow students considered Romney guilelessly optimistic, noting his solid work ethic and buttoned-down demeanor and appearance. He readily adapted to the business school's pragmatic, data-driven case study method of teaching, participated in class well, and led a study group whom he pushed to get all A's. He had a different social experience from most of his classmates, since he lived in a Belmont, Massachusetts, house with Ann and two children.

He was non-ideological and did not involve himself in the political or social issues of the day. He graduated in 1975 cum laude from the law school, in the top third of that class, and was named a Baker Scholar for graduating in the top five percent of his business school class.

I saw one newspaper account from his basketball days. His team mates only remember him as a back up forward who would argue with the coach during games. They won the state championship in spite of Barack. Unlike Sarah Palin who LED her team to theirs. BTW that article seems to have disappeared from the internet.

Isn't it interesting...the Post can go back four decades and dig up a story about Romney, yet they don't have the stones to ask Obozo anything about his past since it's all been sequestered.

Hint: Grade school records, high school records, who ghost wrote his book full of lies, college records, who paid for them, birth certificates (both fake ones and the - probably destroyed real one), that Connecticut SSN number, how the h*ll that cretin ever got to do anything at Harvard - even though the DeadTedKennedycretin did).

Now, get off your fat liberal butts and get to work (if you ever really did work).

This ranks right up there with “snickering in the cafeteria at classmates who drank milk from the cartons labeled HOMO on the side.”

Obama had a 2.03 GPA in college and was on academic probation 5 out of 8 semesters at Occidental College. He failed several courses twice and was very active in the gay Marxist group on campus.

Don't believe it, liberals? Disprove it!

(crickets...)

Don't ask us, ask the da*ned Wapo reporter. (Who watches the watchers?)
