Gay marriage: Black voters remain divided (but it won't hurt Obama)
Politico ^ | 10 May 2012 | Joseph Williams

African-Americans voted 2-1 in favor of the North Carolina amendment banning gay marriage Tuesday, but the White House is betting that black voters there and beyond will stick with the president, despite broad resistance to legalization.

While there’s faith that African-Americans will turn out strong at the polls to protect Obama’s legacy, pollsters point out that while opposition to same-sex marriages has fallen in the black community, it’s still just a point shy of 50 percent — enough to affect black turnout, at least theoretically, in an election where every vote will matter.

No way will this hurt Obama. Melanin is thicker than almost anything. He got 95% of the black vote here in NC in 2008, and he'll probably repeat it this year despite blacks voting an astonishing 2:1 in favor of Amendment One, the constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

Nothing seems to dent support in the "black community" for The Won. It's amazing what you can do with lots of Other People's Money, ain't it?

I think it’s ironic that blacks and Mormons are very pro-traditional marriage, but both have presidential nominees who don’t represent them on this issue.

Now would be a good time for Romney to articulate that he has “evolved” toward traditional marriage since his time as governor, even as Obama evolved away from it. Not that it would move many black voters.

Blacks won’t abandon Obama no matter what he says or does. He may have lost 1 or 2% of the black vote and a few less blacks may vote this time but it will be inconsequential - and he knows that. Obama took a gamble but not a huge one. He is boxed into publicly supporting gay ‘marriage’ by his own constituency and he’s counting on a huge gay/black/leftist turnout to offset the losses his position on gay ‘marriage’ may cost him. I believe it won’t be enough and he’ll be defeated if Romney doesn’t go soft on him as McCain did in 2008. We’ll soon find out.

Van Jones said that African-Americans would vote for Obama, even if HE were gay! He’s right.

Racism still wins out over religion in the black community.

The blacks just don't get it that once this dictator King Obama gets full control for another four years he will cut them off. Blacks are just not thinking. The real threat to their existence is the communists democratic party and they have worked them over for many years.

The black vote belongs to liberal elites.

Blacks belong to liberal elites.

Blacks aren't going to leave the liberal plantation - and the few ‘uppity’ ones who become conservative can still be trashed by the ones 'Uncle Tomming it' on the liberal Plantation.

If elites decided to tear down churches, kill any ‘inconvenient baby’ under the age of two, and allow men to ‘marry’ their dogs - the black community would go along with it.

And they wonder why they don't have the 'respect' other racial groups get?

You made only one mistake: you added the word "almost."

There's no "almost" about it.

Whites get called racist for not voting for a black candidate, but non-conservative blacks would vote for the devil himself if his skin was the right color.

Sadly, I agree with this 100%.

Blacks won’t turn from Obama to Mitt on the issue. OTOH, their enthusiasm may wane enough so that they aren’t “gung-ho” to get out the vote for him or get themselves to polls if it means any significant kind of hardship (or there’s some obstacle in their way, like heavy rain or a flat tire or whatever).

Get you are right that some of the orginal ovomit voters just stay home, but I would bet there are a lot of them who vote against the ONE in the privacy of the voting booth.

We will never hear about that statistic, but I would bet that number will be significant.

I think Politico is whistling past the graveyard. Obama’s gay marriage stance will hurt him - probably little among African-Americans, but substantially among other groups.

It will certainly hurt him in any states with gay marriage referendums on the ballot in November.

African-Americans voted 2-1 in favor of the North Carolina amendment banning gay marriage Tuesday, but the White House is betting that black voters there and beyond will stick with the president ...

Duh.

Obama will never lose the black, gay, progressive, union, Marxist, communist, (insert left-wing / victim group here) voters, no matter the economy, unemployment, wars, Guantanamo, etc.

Meanwhile, in Romneyville, no particular group, from evangelicals to libertarians are very enthused about their "choice" ...

The good, decent, god fearing blacks will not vote for this turd. The trash will.
