The Minnesota Senate has approved a financing plan for a new Vikings stadium. By a 36-30 vote the afternoon of Thursday, May 10, senators passed the bill to fund a new $975 million stadium. The bill now heads to Gov. Mark Dayton for his signature. Dayton has been a ardent support of the bill. The Senate vote came hours after the Minnesota House gave its support to the plan. The deal is a compromise bill after a conference committee ironed out differences between earlier versions. A key change was requiring the team to pay an additional $50 million than first proposed.

If the Vikings wanted to win, instead of maximizing profits, they would play outdoors, which would work to thei advantage at playoff time (assuming they are home team).
What is wrong with the old stadium(s)?
LostAngeles has the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl, but somehow modern wisdom concludes the attendees of today need something else.
Why not lower the ticket prices, lower parking, lower the players salaries, and play ball?
If fans don’t want to attend the games, maybe it is the neighborhood, not the stadium?
They packed the crappy old Metrodome...when they’re playing well.
The Twins have a nice new stadium and they’re the worst in baseball.
Taxpayers should never be on the hook to pay for private enterprise. This is nothing but corporate welfare that supports millionaire players and billionaire owners.
Target Center getting remodeled, too. And the Gopher baseball team is getting a stadium. So are the Saints.
Our state must be rich beyond belief! Maybe that Bakken oil field migrated to MN?
The cave was both inevitable and predictable. Unfortunately, it occurred with both houses of the Legislature controlled by Republicans, some of whom need to be reminded why they were elected.
There are a number of citizens of our fair state who have now forfeited their right to complain about infrastructure, education, and above all, taxes.
Within the last five years the taxpayers have been raided for funds for a University of Minnesota football stadium (Godawful team), the Twins (worst team in baseball) and now the Vikings (ne’er-do-wells).
Far too many idiots here who claim conservatism but evaporate when it’s time to show colors.

My Democrat state senator got it right and voted no. I’m just sick about this.
A Pizza Hut actually creates wealth. NFL teams just transfer money from one pocket to another -- money that might otherwise be spent on movies, bars, or amusement parks.
A billion dollars for a pro-sports stadium is unconscionable and will drain money from the community rather than adding to it.

Just think of the dozens of people needed to hawk beer and hotdogs 8 Sundays a year. All for only a billion bucks.
Basically, the Vikings got everything they wanted - like the contract will say that the facility must be maintained as a “top tier” facility, the terms of which the NFL can dictate, so millions more in capital investment over the 30 years.
in inflation-adjusted dollars, the $60 million that was spent to build the current Metrodome would be about $300 in current dollars. So we’re overbuilding by $700 million.
