What a strange journey Elizabeth Warren’s decades of defrauding the Harvard “diversity” racket has taken us upon! Once the viral video darling of the hard Left, Warren has degenerated into a ridiculous caricature of ruling-class snobbery and liberal hypocrisy.
It was only a few weeks ago that she began nervously trying to deny she ever passed herself off as a Native American. Then she found herself clinging to the slender reed of widely-reported “evidence” that her great-great-great-grandmother just might have been Cherokee. Now it looks like even this claim is bogus… but her great-great-great-grandfather apparently helped the Tennessee Militia drag Cherokee from their homes and herd them down the Trail of Tears, where a great many of them died.
Michael Patrick Leahy at Breitbart.com and William Jacobson of Legal Insurrection developed the scoop:
Jonathan Crawford, O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford’s husband and apparently Ms. Warren's great-great-great grandfather, served in the East Tennessee Mounted Infantry Volunteer Militia commanded by Brigadier General R. G. Dunlap from late 1835 to late 1836. While under Dunlap’s command he was a member of Major William Lauderdale’s Battalion, and Captain Richard E. Waterhouse’s Company.
These were the troops responsible for removing Cherokee families from homes they had lived in for generations in the three states that the Cherokee Nations had considered their homelands for centuries: Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
While these involuntary home removals were not characterized by widespread violence, the newly displaced Cherokee mothers, fathers, and children found an oppressive and sometimes brutal welcome when they finally arrived at the hastily constructed containment areas. An estimated 4,000 Cherokees were warehoused in Ross’s Landing stockades for months awaiting supplies and additional armed guards the Federal Government believed necessary to relocate them on foot to Oklahoma.
As for O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford, the numerator in Warren’s alleged 1/32nd Cherokee ancestry, there is no real evidence that she was actually a Cherokee. She was listed as “white” in the 1860 census, and there is no substantiated documentation to the contrary. Her son claimed in his marriage license application that he had a Cherokee mother, but Mom’s actual marriage license does not support such a claim.
There is more interesting history laid out in Leahy’s piece at Breitbart.com. The pertinent question at this point is why Harvard University apparently spent the last quarter-century blissfully ignorant of it, allowing Warren to misrepresent herself as Native American right through April 2012. It’s also interesting that so much of the media was willing to accept Warren’s flimsy claim of 3 percent Cherokee ancestry at face value, instead of proceeding on the far more reasonable assumption she is a fabulist whose every word should be rigorously questioned.
Three percent Cherokee heritage would have been a ridiculously thin justification for gaming the Harvard diversity system. It looks like we’re moving on to whatever comes after “ridiculous.”
There was a time, in my lifetime, that a Harvard degree carried a certain panache; there was at least a veneer of “class”, of excellence (if snobbery) to it.
No longer. A Harvard “education” is now known to be little more than a very, very expensive indoctrination in leftist theory, demagoguery, and outright idiocy.
As an employer, a Harvard degree would be viewed by many now as a detriment vs. a gold star next to a candidate’s name. Personally, I wouldn’t give a hoot in Hell for a Harvard grad. It would prove one thing, and one thing only to me: this idiot either had money, or worse, went deep into debt to be brainwashed.

My husband is 1/8 and my children 1/16 Cherokee. I’m just white people ;-). When my oldest daughter joined the Coast Guard, the recruiters got some bonus points for her being of American Indian descent, as well as a girl and a college student.
I know what you mean. When I was younger, I had the idea that the Ivy League universities were the epitome of excellence and that simply getting into such a school marked a student as someone to watch and admire. No longer.
A few years back, when I was the manager of a small English school in Tokyo, I had the opportunity to interview a number of grads from big name schools and was decidedly unimpressed. In one case, I interviewed a female applicant with a Masters from University of Pennsylvania (I think Political Science) who looked especially good on paper.
The interview lasted five minutes. She was obese, wearing a halter top, had a belly pierce — and a red star tattooed on her forearm. She also stank.
Unbelievable...
That's a stretch.
In order to experience humiliation, you have to have some semblance of a conscience, or at least some feeling of regard for those before whom you've been exposed. Neither of these elements is present in the Harvard faculty.
This entire episode will be buried, never to be spoken of again. Ms. Warren will be induced to move along after a decent interval, probably by a combination of an attractive offer from some privately-funded advocady group (Planned Parenthood might be looking for a new director) and having her office moved to the basement of the whatever is the ugliest, oldest, smelliest building that belongs to the Harvard Law School.
Harvard will move on also, as arrogant and full-of-itself as ever.
Other than that.....what was wrong with her? :)

Not all who attend are brainwashed. As with any University there are conservatives on campus. There used to (and may still) be a conservative paper (’the salient’) and a pro life group at the law school among other ordinary part of the woodwork conservatives.
I think you are right, Warren has made the faculty and the administration look stupid, no worse silly, an object of ridicule. Unforgivable for a faculty member-Warren has
embarassed them.
In a year or two she will move on. But to where? Most of the places she might go-left wing think tanks, Planned Parenthood and so forth are filled with graduates from the Ivies. They may not want her either.

I once received an RFP from a southwestern Indian tribe (I can’t remember if it was Apache or Navajo). Anyway, much of the legalese in the Request wanted to know if I was a Native American, how many Native Americans were employed in my company and if I didn’t have any, why not? My first inclination was to throw it in the trash, but I was so po’d by the PC nature of this drivel that I wrote them back, advising them that I was unable to submit a proposal because although there was a family rumor that my great grandmother was 1/4 Cherokee I had no proof of that and felt “unqualified” to work for them. I hoped my sarcasm was in proportion to their asininity.
In any event, I received a reply virtually begging me to submit a proposal and ignore the racist crap in the RFP. Evidently, the woman who replied was a victim of the bureaucratic PC verbiage requirement probably written by a federal official.
Most people I run across know this verbiage in contracts is garbage. Perhaps Prof. Warren’s debacle will help to laugh it out of existence.
I know you get brownie points for being 1/16... My mother and aunts were 1/16 as BOTH my grandparents were, but they didn’t ever want to take advantage of it...
My ancestry is a mix of British Isles, Native American, and African (real slave blood, Obama).
Never once in my life have I ever even thought about trying to scam up on some sort of government mandated affirmative action or special entitlement program. I wouldn't even know the first thing about how you go about that.

I’m sure there are genetic tests available now that could substantiate or disprove Ms Warren’s claim with 99% accuracy.

When we lived in Oklahoma, I tried to get my husband to do the paperwork to get on the tribal register, so we could get a cool Cherokee Nation license plate. He wouldn’t, though.
The Coast Guard recruiters didn’t ask for any documentation from the redheaded white girl helping them meet their “minority” recruitment quota - I guess it would have been racist. She’s been in the CG three years now and just made Gunner’s Mate.
