Profit Potential for Israel
India has acquired a carrier from Russia and is seeking to equip it with modern systems, perhaps even those produced by Israel
The significant increase in the strength of the Indian army in the coming years may result in new deals with several of Israel's defense industries. India has acquired a Russian aircraft carrier, which it will receive at the start of 2013. India is also seeking to equip this carrier with several systems that are not part of the deal with Moscow.
It seems that the systems in question are defense systems that include Barak missiles and Electronic Warfare (EW) systems for defending the large vessel. India has also acquired a relatively new submarine from India, which will be delivered to the country in the coming years.
According to Israeli sources, India’s army – which also has additional procurement plans – is undergoing a process that may open possibilities for additional deals with some of Israel's defense industries.
Some of the systems installed today onboard the vessels of the Israeli Navy are among the most advanced in the world, including systems for defending vessels against missiles, torpedoes, and various air threats.
It is also known that other countries, primarily European, will attempt to take advantage of the Indian navy's growth in order to conduct deals with India. The sources also say that Israel is expected to face stiff competition. Russia will also attempt to increase the scope of the deal by attempting to sell the additional systems to India. However, it appears that such an attempt would face an Indian demand to examine advanced systems from other countries as well.
Seems rather restricted in terms of space to park a full contingent of planes. The Nimitz and Enterprise class carriers all carry at least 60 planes.
Well, that’s why the Nimitz and Enterprise are called SUPER-carriers :)
Those two are really really big. Prolly 3 times as big as other carriers that other countries have. Nimitz class carriers have about 100000 long tons displacement. While the Indo-russian one is about 44000 lt.
And also only the US has super carriers. No other country does. Not even the yester-era USSR. Russia never bothered to build carriers as their naval policy was centered around subs.
Soviets had ideology everythere. Following their theories real carriers are means to project imperialist oppression worldwide. That is a reason why a communist nation cannot operate one. No kidding. For that reason their navy came out with an idea of small carriers which wasn’t even even named carriers for dogmatic reasons. This one is an air defence cruiser and it’s official purpose to defend naval operations against aerial threats.
Well my point wasn’t to discuss soviet ideology. It was to point out that only the US has super carriers :)
