Family of alleged Romney victim angry over exploitation of story
Hotair ^ | 05/11/2012 | Ed Morrissey

The family of the eight-years-deceased alleged victim of a cruel prank by a teenaged Mitt Romney reacted angrily to the Washington Post story yesterday — but not for the reasons one might imagine. Calling the Washington Post story “factually inaccurate,” the sisters of the late John Lauber lashed out at the Post for using him to “further a political agenda” (via Ed Driscoll at Instapundit):

The older sister of Mitt Romney’s former high school classmate said she has no knowledge of any bullying incident involving her brother and the GOP presidential candidate.

Christine Lauber of South Bend, Ind., had not seen the Washington Post’s story that described an incident when Mitt Romney bullied her brother, but said she was aware of the story. The incident centered around Romney allegedly holding the scissors to help cut the hair of John Lauber, who was presumed to be gay and who had long hair.

Neither of his sisters had heard of the incident from their brother, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. That’s not their main complaint, though:

Betsy Lauber, one of John Lauber’s three sisters, spoke with ABC News Tuesday night regarding the accuracy of the story.

“The family of John Lauber is releasing a statement saying the portrayal of John is factually incorrect and we are aggrieved that he would be used to further a political agenda. There will be no more comments from the family,” she said.

Christine Lauber echoed her sister:

She added she and her sisters will likely put out a statement later via a family attorney.

“If he were still alive today, he would be furious [about the story],” she said with tears in her eyes.

ABC notes that both sisters were quoted in the WaPo article. It seems that they were unaware of the real subject matter, or at least the way the Post intended to use their recollections of their brother. It might be interesting to see what else an attorney might have to say about the matter.

“I got my ass kicked 30 years ago”...yeah, I kinda see his point.

But hey, let’s drop this so we can get back to the fascinating details of Obama’s formative years...uh, I mean his college years....Or, uh, his activities at law school...his composite girlfriends...where he was born...

Just sayin.

This is about the same level of reporting as that instituted by Dan Rather and his “fake but accurate” report of how George W. Bush was AWOL from his Air National Guard duties.

Just more “fake but accurate” reporting from a source with an agenda.

Another huge nothingburger.

The media steps on their &^% again.

I wonder if they'll continue to do this all the way thru the election.

I heard his ad for his new book on the radio. It was the sound of a desperate, old pathetic man still clinging to his story that it was true.

Lauber died in 2004 of liver cancer

I'm sure we'll learn that Romney's bullying drove Lauber to alcoholism.

If he’d suddenly returned home with a hair cut that was very different from what he started out with, they’d have asked and learned about the alleged incident. This is beginning o look like the Duke Rape Case.

Romney can’t remember whether or not he assaulted someone with scissors? I clearly recall that I’ve never assaulted anyone with scissors.

Is Romney so dimwitted that he lacks the capacity to remember whether or not he assaulted someone with scissors?

Or, has Romney committed so many assaults that he can’t remember the details of many of them?

Or, is Romney just a liar?

Romney gives us wonderful choices, doesn’t he?

Yeah, I wish he'd just shut up. Now Romnesty says he agrees with homosexuals adopting babies . . . this in light of the fact that there are thousands of heterosexual (normal) couples trying to adopt, but having to go to China, Russian, S. America to find children. This also in light of the fact that we ruthlessly murder 3,300 American babies in this country EVERY DAY.

It's going to be all I can do to vote for this democrat like I had to be forced to vote for Dole, Bush, Sr., and McLame.

Better that he just shut his mouth and let the homo-in-chief do all the talking.

Nice. Just what an outfit that's bleeding cash needs- a costly lawsuit.

Assuming the family all lived together (or even if not) wouldn't the girls remember if their brother had long hair and returned home from school with it cut. Plus, if Romney or anyone cut it off, I am sure it was not a barbershop type cut. The boy would have walked around with a very strange hairdo, I am sure...and many would have remembered that.

On the other hand, how could Romney NOT have any memory of anything like that he might have done?

I suspect something happened, but not a haircut with scissors. Maybe just the threat took place and now it is being blown out of proportion by the Libs.
