That’s a great description of Bruce Johnston’s voice. Brian wrote the “wish they all could be California Girls” countermelody at the end just for Bruce, and it really worked. Same with that echo to Carl’s lead at the end of “God Only Knows.”

Ever hear the song “Endless Harmony?”

Bruce Johnston also sang backing vocals on Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”

Meanwhile, Toni Tennille was married to Daryl “The Captain” Dragon, who once played keys for the Beach Boys touring band and wrote songs with Dennis Wilson.

I was surprised to discover that the “Beach Boys Singer” was not Mike Love. He’s the one that usually sticks his foot in his mouth, and has supported Republicans in the past. Bruce was always one of the quiet, dependable ones.

If I'm not mistaken, he also had a hand in "Afternoon Delight" by the Starland Vocal Band as well as "Torn Between Two Lovers" by Mary MacGregor.

Does anybody remember the song "Timothy" by The Buoys? That was NOT written by any of the Beach Boys but that guy Rupert Holmes ("Escape") penned that famous song about cannibalism.

Yes, those are two amazing musical moments you just described! I’ve never heard Endless Harmony....is that on a 70’s Beach Boys album like Holland or something?

“Endless Harmony” was originally on “Keepin’ the Summer Alive,” and was re-released on the “Endless Harmony” compilation. It’s essentially Bruce Johnston’s ode to the Beach Boys, with Carl Wilson taking over the lead vocal for the outro. Great harmony bits here and there, and the whole thing “feels” like a minor-key version of “Disney Girls,” if that makes sense.
