Well to be totally fair our high tax, high regulation government is often foisted on us by the very people who turn around and renounce their citizenship.

When they say “raise taxes”, they don’t mean on themselves.

It’s just more liberal hypocrisy.

The French have thought this way for over 200 years. Hollande is just putting it into practice for the first time since the guillotines stopped falling.

The guillotine was used until fairly recently, actually. Just as a point of interest:

"The guillotine remained the official method of execution in France until the death penalty was abolished in 1981. The last guillotining in France was that of torture-murderer Hamida Djandoubi on September 10, 1977." (Wikipedia)

Seems like it just needs a quick dusting off, and it's good to go!

Could you elaborate on what kind of people you're talking about? I'm genuinely curious.

I re-read the Declaration of Independence today and found the following passage particularly applicable to our situation today:

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

The question is, how does this passage apply if half the country likes things just the way they are? When half the country has decided they are perfectly content to elect officials who will steal from the other half so that they can sit on their lazy @sses. In such a situation, I don't see how the producers "throw off such government." Despite my more recent sign-up date, I've been lurking on this site since the Clinton years. FReepers have been up in arms the whole time - always talking about how we're going to get our country back in the future. But the fact is, we've lost ground since the Clinton years. In such a climate as this, I don't blame anyone who decides that they would like to pursue their freedom elsewhere.

France’s new Socialist president owns three holiday homes in the glamorous Riviera resort of Cannes, it emerged today.

Okay - from the Drudge Report today one of the founders of Face Book is giving up his citizenship and going back to Brazil. It seems he’s doing this before Face Book goes on the market (and his taxes will skyrocket.)

I know the other guy who helped found Face Book is a big lib - what do you want to bet this Brazillionaire is too?

And I’ll be if I dig in a little, I’d find this guy gave all kinds of money to big liberal causes.

Or

How about California? After decades of voting for big liberal politicians, those people are fleeing for lower tax states.

Or

How about Michael Moore? Mr Moore (who thinks the rich should pay more) I believe still claims small town Michigan as his home residence. Can it be because taxes are lower? He’s pushing for higher taxes in other places.

Or

How about Stephen “Raise my taxes” King? I notice he lives in Florida a place known for its lower taxes. Why isn’t he paying the inflated Maine costs?

Or

Let’s take France itself. I just elected a guy who admits he “hates the rich” even as it’s revealed he owns three houses in the ritzy Cannes section of southern France. I wonder if some of the people now fleeing France were friends/supporters of this guy.

Humans are kind of stupid when you stop and think about it. My cats and dogs won’t crap in their beds.

Have you seen the movie “Atlas Shrugged”?

That rich steel tycoon gives his idiot son all kinds of money. Of course his son’s interest group ends up passing all kinds of laws that start to hammer said tycoon.

Or

How about Occupy Wall Street? The media have found that a lot of the Occupiers are on the sidewalk while mommy and daddy are working inside. They’re supporting the very thing that is going to choke them.

Or

When Lenin was taking over Russia he joked that “The Capitalists are going to sell us the rope we’re going to use to hang them.”

In 2012, the capitalists are GIVING the communists the rope (they don’t want to be thought of as “greedy”.)

Thanks for the examples. I get your point. Still, I doubt if everyone who has left the States is a flaming lib. Some just want the govenment to leave them alone. They want the kind of freedoms our founders came to America for and they don’t think they can get that here anymore.

The sad part is that there are so many examples. :(

Once upon a time in this country, hypocrites and people fleecing the system at least tried to hid what they were doing.

Today they loudly celebrate it. :(
