This case is a frightening example of what can happen when a photographer encounters ignorant bullies with badges. According to the complaint filed in Federal Court, Nancy Genovese, a mother of three, was driving home on County Road 31 past Gabreski Airport in Suffolk County. Gabreski Airport displays a decorative helicopter shell by the roadway to the public, which is visible to all who pass by.

Lieutenant Iberger grabbed her camera and handled it “without care”. In an attempt to prevent the lieutenant from damaging the camera, Nancy removed her memory card, which Lieutenant Iberger confiscated.

I don't like a police state, and I'm not defending the action of the officer. But I will say that if an officer grabs your camera, then I think it will be difficult for a citizen to subsequently remove the memory card. This just doesn't ring true for me.

I have the feeling that this woman's rendition of the story may not be 100% accurate.

"may not be accurate"

Plus the asking for 70 million bucks. Why didn't she just make it an even 100 million? (smirk)

If this is 10% true, there need to be public hangings.

Why did you change the title?

So, apparently this is in New York state? Not that you’d know that from the story.

I agree, this story strains credulity. It would be interesting to read followup as the lawsuit progresses. If it progresses.

What is incredulous about this?

If you have ever met a power-tripping petty tyrant with a badge you know this type of abuse is fairly routine.
I speak from experience, in more than one city and state.

If you have never met one of these putrid punks you may still believe the fairy tale that all LE have only our best interest at heart.

In fact it appears the majority now see everything in an “US vs THEM!” light.
You are either a cop, or suspect.

If the article is factual, it’s pretty clear the “sheriff” here is a liberal brown-shirt.
Hopefully he loses the lawsuit, and his job.

...Lieutenant Iberger pushed Nancy Genovese when she objected to the seizure of her rifle. Deputy Carlock taunted Nancy, asking in a disparaging tone, “You’re a real right winger, aren’t you?”, and stating in words or substance that she was never going to see her rifle again.

Only 'terrorists' the modern liberal Police State knows is 'right wingers'... I'll bet he would NEVER stereotype a black or a Muslim with that level of contempt. Time to sue?

Well - if a mod feels generous today, they might change the title to the original - per the rules.

If not feeling thus, they might just pull it.

fwiw and future ref

Not so unbelievable...Long Island, New York Police State at its F....g best! It is long past time to take our country back from the evil POS leftist freedom haters. I hope she wins big on her suit. And I hope heads roll...castration and incarceration is too good for them, but a place to start.

Well, if you'd gone to the US Open at Shinnecock you might 'cause Gabreski Airport is where they parked us all.

"Southampton" is kind of a big clue too.

But I do agree with you that all of the posts should be tagged at least with a State ID.

Assuming for the sake of argument that it is all true, if I were her, and I won, I would deduct $10 million in settlement for each policeman involved that the state agreed to fire without pay and retirement benefits. That would go a long way towards providing satisfaction.

I agree:

Certainly this story must have more to it. but it is evident that common sense on someone’s part went out the window.

Too bad Whites don’t have a Jesse Jackass ot Al Sharptongue to take up case’s for them.

Police just walk all over our rights without fear of prosecution.
