This case is a frightening example of what can happen when a photographer encounters ignorant bullies with badges. According to the complaint filed in Federal Court, Nancy Genovese, a mother of three, was driving home on County Road 31 past Gabreski Airport in Suffolk County. Gabreski Airport displays a decorative helicopter shell by the roadway to the public, which is visible to all who pass by.

The cops, with increasingly rare exception, are just another street gang; jack-booted thugs with no respect for citizens.

I hope she walks away with the deed to town hall.

This reminds me of my two sons. The older one would do something mean to the younger one and he’d toss a fit. Then the older one would look at me like the younger one was just is nuts. After something similar to a court case, the truth would come out.

They had no business in jailing her. They dropped the charges because the vindictive officer just tagged her with something unsupportable. Violating a citizen’s freedom like this should cost that town dearly.

The only way to get these wild cops nailed and to change policies governing police officers’ abuse of power, is to make it hurt badly. If as she says, the abuser harmed her because of what he thought were political stances, he should be tried and if guilty, executed. Maybe we need some new state sentencing laws for officers who abuse their power and violate citizens’ constitutional rights.

What is incredulous about this?

I'm an avid camera nut, and have a few times been told that I wasn't allowed to take pictures. Once at a ferry terminal, a couple times when I got too close (by boat) to the USS Stennis and also near the Bangor Trident sub base. Warnings may have been stern, but never abusive or unreasonable.

On the other hand, I once pulled out my camera after walking off a plane at a tiny airstrip in southern Algeria and immediately had a half-dozen automatic rifles pointed at me... I quickly put the camera back in the bag and all was well.

I work at a Sheriffs Office.
And I know if someone was questioned for 6 hours on the road, was never read their rights, was denied medical treatment, was misclassified as suicidal, and all charges were dismissed.

Those deputies would IMMEDIATELY be SUSPENDED without pay, and a criminal investigation would be immediately commenced.

I used to live near Reid-Hillview airport.

I guess I’m lucky not to have had similar problems for stopping to look at the Half-Track they had on display for many years.
I don’t know if it’s still there, I think it was an advertising gimmick for a restaurant on the airport property.

San Jose International had a replica biplane at a theme restaurant too, also on airport property.
I’m sure lots of people took pictures.

If looking at or taking pictures of displays on airport property is a problem, take the displays down!

Of course we lose some history, but hey, it’s NECESSARY in order to advance complete Gov. Org. control.

I already posted a link to an article where a federal judge denied a judgement on the case. All this is very odd when almost all the information you can find is only on a bunch of blogs and from the victim's attorney.

The article you posted is extremely misleading. I just read the court docket sheet and what the court denied was Genovese's motion for a default judgment against the Town for failing to serve an answer to the complaint. This is not a judgment on the merits. The court did not dismiss her lawsuit.

Mother of 3 arrested, abused

Mother of 3? Now, had she been a mother of 2, I would have understood the arrest anbd abuse, but a mother of 3?!

I grew up in Suffolk county and know it quite well. I read the title, two paragraphs and three comments and had no idea where this story was taking place so I quit reading, as I’m not going to buy it.

I then skimmed the responses and saw ml/nj’s rude comment and response.

THis is my suffolk Co., NOT the one in Mass., Va not even England or any of the others unknown to me.

Still won’t read it. It’s been too much trouble already.

Hard to believe every last person she encountered treated her that way. Really difficult.

I hope this woman gets the whole seventy million, and may the local taxpayers take their feelings out in a mass recall.

Agreed. I'm not going to say that we don't have a few "hardcore" guys in our department...where I work......cuz we do. But they are balanced out by the guys like me, who try to keep a level head and don't want to get sued for every little thing we do.
I've stepped in and mediated on several occasions when cooler heads needed to prevail. Perhaps all of those agencies don't have any level-headed officers. I guess anything is possible.

Then again..... a while back I was literally told by someone who broke a traffic law that we weren’t allowed to pull him over because “his sh!t doesn’t stink”. He actually yelled that word-for-word at me.
Let me tell you, it’s hard to maintain a level-head in some of these situations but he didn’t get beaten nor did he get illegally detained.
Although he felt he had been wronged so badly receiving that citation (because his sh!t doesn’t stink) that he began following the officer that ticketed him around town.
Of course you can legally do that......but does a rational person really want to be put on law enforcement’s radar like that?
I guess he weighed his options because he decided to leave well enough alone after a couple minutes.

Search on Nancy Genovese Suffolk, and you get a large batch of hits. She filed suit in federal court, the city failed to respond to the motion in time (city attorney pleaded “I forgot” due to family problems) narrowly escaping the plaintiff being awarded the whole $70 million by default. The suit is still making its way through the system.
