he New Orleans Police Department and community leaders will host a gun buyback Saturday morning in Gert Town. Citizens can trade in weapons starting at 9 a.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church, 4821 Earhart Blvd. People will receive $75 in cash for working handguns and $200 for assault rifles, no questions asked, said the Rev. Norwood Thompson of the Greater New Orleans/Jefferson Gun Buyback Committee.

The 12th annual buyback is returning this year to New Orleans after being hosted the past three years in Jefferson Parish. Members of the NOPD will be on hand to check and disarm the weapons and make sure they are not linked to any crimes. Later, the weapons will be destroyed, according to Thompson. In previous years,

I have a fair amount of cash, how do I get in on the buy?
If my church were in New Orlins, I’d want to stock up, too. Glad to see they’re getting the nonprofit, clergyman’s discount...
So there will be “no questions asked”, but the police will be there to make sure that none of the guns turned in are linked to any crimes. I’m a bit curious about how they’re going to do that.

-it’s not a buy, it’s a “keep”- the cops will take the nice ones and they’ll never make it to the metal crusher.
