Yes, The NVA refers to the North Vietnames Army. The Viet Cong were communist guerillas in South Vietnam. They were working together to overthrow the government of South Vietnam and unify the country under the communists with Hanoi being the capital.

A huge number of VC were wiped out during the Tet Offensive. They believed they could cause a mass uprising, but they made a serious miscalculation. Unfortunately, this victory for the US and its allies was portrayed as a defeat by the US media. Hence, it became a huge propaganda victory for the Communists and weakened support for the war in Congress and by the American public.
