McCain: Romney knows self-deportation is not 'the entire answer'

They are terrified of Hispanic voters in a general election where their turnout may be high again like in 2008. Amnesty is the only idea that they can think of, and many flavors of amnesty are popular with Hispanics.

It's clearly a near term strategy much like the Rove/GWB stategies were.

I fully expect Romney to flip back to his real position the first moment he thinks he can get away with it.

I think when they refer to Hispanics they are really talking about Mexicans in particular. Most of the illegals are Mexicans and the very loud and obnoxious illegal alien advocates such as the National Council of LaRaza, LULAC, MECha and MALDEF are run by Mexicans. However, there are other Hispanic ethnicities that have no dog in the hunt such as Puerto Ricans who have no immigration problems, then the Cubans who are legal immgrants and many other types of Hispanics who came here legally. Republicans are being cowed by this supposedly solid Hispanic vote, when there are several kinds of Hispanics. If Republicans were smart they would keep pointing this out thereby splitting up the so-called Hispanic vote.
