Ron Paul: Nomination is out of reach, but campaign continues

Ron Paul is not suspending his presidential campaign. That's the message his staff pushed Tuesday following the candidate's declaration that he won't spend any additional funds to campaign in new states.

But campaign manager Jesse Benton clearly stated that the hopes of Paul winning the Republican presidential nomination are officially over.

"We recognize that Gov. [Mitt] Romney has what is very likely to be an insurmountable delegate lead," Benton told reporters on a conference call Tuesday. "And we acknowledge that we're very, very unlikely to be able to block that nomination."

The campaign followed a delegate strategy that would have put it in a "good position" to influence the outcome, should there be a brokered convention, said Benton. But "unfortunately, other candidates were not able to maintain their strength."

Other than Paul and Romney, every major Republican running for president has suspended his campaign, given Romney's strong delegate lead. Romney currently claims 973 delegates, according to the Associated Press, and he needs 1,144 total delegates to seal the nomination. Paul has 104 delegates and has won a majority of delegates in just one state thus far: Maine.

But winning the nomination is not the campaign's goal, Benton stressed. Rather, amassing delegates and influencing the nominating process continues to be the focus.

"We still have very, very strong things that we can accomplish by continuing this campaign," Benton said.

Paul will continue to lobby for speaking roles at state conventions and other events,

Sort of an anti-Clintonism. “I’m not smoking the weed, but I do intend to inhale.”

He still has campaign funds he can spend staying at nice hotels and eating good food.

He is a Texas politician but he won’t be campaigning here.

Interesting.

Fascinating to watch the only guy still fighting Romney constantly bashed with liberal levels of slander.

Stay away from discussions of economics, shills - too dangerous.

Oh and BTW, Hillary thanks you for your service. Once Obama is disqualified, she can’t think of a better RINO to run against than mittens.

Fools.

Continued accumulation of Primary delegates in the remaining State Primaries is the key to improving Paul’s chances of forcing the GOP-E to hold an OPEN Convention in Tampa.

Paul will then have completed his main task in this Primary: giving the delegates the freedom to DUMP ROMNEY!

My goal is to defeat the insanity of Keyensian Economics in “both” of our very sorry political parties THIS YEAR!

This can be accomplished by the Delegates choosing a stellar Dark Horse Nominee, such as R-Rep. West of Florida, to slaughter Obama in a November Landslide.

The key is to FORCE the GOP-E to allow for an OPEN Convention in Tampa. Without an OPEN Convention the SOS of INSANE Federal Spending will keep America on the same crowded track with Greece, and Kalifornia.

There are over 15, 000, 000, 000, 000 reasons why spending more money this year than was taken in during the previous year is an INSANE path to financial destruction.

Neither Obama or Romney have presented a plan to spend our Federal dollars in a non-insane manner.

For example, the GOP Elite have stood in line to endorse Romney, to endorse “The Ryan Budget,” and to compromise-away every opportunity to reduce Federal Spending.

I included the Ryan Budget, because Rep. Paul Ryan himself says that his “Budget” will balance in 30 YEARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, I added those exclamation points, because both you and I know that Ryan’s budget will NEVER balance, and thus will never be a fact. The exclamation points are just for volume emphasis.

"He is a Texas politician but he won’t be campaigning here."

He is a politician, who happens to be from Texas, but he won’t be campaigning here.

Fixed!

I don't want people to get the impression that Wrong Paul is a typical Texas politician.

He’s an office holder from Texas who has bigger celebrity outside of the state and rather than meet the needs of his constituents would rather go off on the road for a party he does not support supported by voters who are not in the party he uses the banner of.

If he really wanted to kick up some dust and challenge the status quo, he would’ve run as a Democrat this time and challenged Obama to a series of debates. That’s how to question the policies. No one is questioning Obama on the issues yet and he was not vetted in 2008.

He would’ve gotten at least 20% support running as a Rat this year.

Agreed. The myth is that if Wrong Paul ran third party, he would hurt the GOP the most. I totally disagree. I think it would hemmorage more RAT votes than GOP votes.

Here in Austin, I work among many WrongPaul-bots. A majority are disheartened Obama-bots and single issue 'legalize' voters....not to mention 911 conspiracy lunatics.

Funny, how no one complained about Ron Paul ‘sucking up’ monies for Secret Service protection, all these months; and so much longer that Newt. . .
