The beleaguered Clark County School District announced today it will send pink slips to 1,015 teachers and literacy specialists next month, triggering the worst-case scenario in dealing with a $64 million budget shortfall.

Under the final budget plan being voted on at Wednesday’s School Board meeting, the district will lay off 840 teachers and 175 literacy specialists, which include librarians and reading coaches. The layoffs represent about 6 percent of the district’s 18,000 licensed employees.

If they lay off all of the Literacy Specialists, who’s gonna read the Union Edicts to the rest of the teachers??

f’em they could have kept all their union brothers and sisters employed if they had made wage concessions but they refused. Nevada’s finances stink but the teachers are lost in a land of pretend where the taxpayers can and will pay anything

Exactly. You could get rid of 90% of the administrators and they’d never miss a beat, but they never get fired.

At any given time, 25% of the employees in any organization are dead wood. Tenure is not wood preservative.

And nothing makes the other 75% happier than the exodus of the dead wood.

You could get rid of 90% of the teachers, have classes sizes of 1,000 each, and grades wouldn’t suffer.

They’re all a waste of money, but teachers are worse because administrators aren’t protected by unions (ineffective ones can be tossed).

it'll never happen....suddenly, they'll "find" money to save the teachers and everybody lives happily ever after, until the next budget.....

they send out layoff letters, there's the typical moaning and groaning for the poor children...and then we find out that not one was really layed off.....
