I have 2 opinions on this.

1) The people I’m not in contact with, I am not in contact with for a reason.

2) Having a FaceBook account will practically never get you a job. But, it’s caused untold numbers of people to lose their job, or to be passed over after an interview. The internet NEVER forgets.

Exactly! If I haven't spoken to you in ~20 years, there's a reason why. And people typically don't change, so if we didn't get along then, we probably aren't now.

Law enforcement and potential employer checks are the really HUGE reason why you should NEVER put anything out there than can and will be used against you.

I just can't believe the amount of complete drivel people “post”:

“Look, I boiled water...now what do I do? LOL!”

Facebook is inanity on a macro scale.

If I was looking for a job having a FB account would have gotten me at least 2 already. Because it’s a communication medium, it’s an easy place for people to spread the word among interested parties that there is an opening. In a lot of ways it’s like e-mailing all your friends without having to poke through your address book. Where once when your company was hiring you’d e-mail friends now you put it on your FB. Even if you want to hit specific people instead of the whole list, so many folks have multiple e-mails and you never really know which one they use most, send them a FB message, it’ll go to whatever e-mail account they’ve set up, giving them two spots to see it.
