Biden seems to have three personalities. First, there is Boring Joe. Like when he mumbles through a welcome to guests at a fundraiser and admonishes them for not looking happy, when in fact they are just taking cues from him.

Then there is levity Joe. This is when he is at his best and probably closest to his true character. Unfortunately for him, that is where we get our best “Stand up Chuck” and “Giants are on their way to the Super Bowl” material from.

Finally, there is irate Joe. In this mode, Joe is purely on auto-pilot. He seems to gather steam as he goes. He doesn’t know when or how to stop in these situations so he just goes on with increasingly strident and indignant rants. The above speech is a good example of that
