We had a declaration of independence, and later Articles of Confederation. We also had a society based on a loving and forgiving, but just God.

The Continental Congress formally declared independence from British rule on July 4th 1776. The Articles of Confederation served as the first constitution. We were fighting the British up to December 14, 1782 when The British evacuated Charleston, South Carolina. Up to the signing of the Constitution, on September 17, 1787, the Continental Congress under the Articles of Confederation directed each of the 13 colonies to set up their own government.
