As Facebook prepares to start trading on the Nasdaq, a class-action lawsuit has been brought against it.
Law firm Stewarts Law US announced today that it has combined 21 privacy lawsuits against the social network into a single, class-action suit, charging the world's largest social network with violating user privacy by allegedly tracking their Web usage.
Stewarts Law is asking for $15 billion -- a sum it arrived at by calling on the U.S. Wiretap Act, which "provides statutory damages of the greater of $100 per violation per day, up to $10,000, per Facebook user," the law firm wrote in its suit, according to Bloomberg, which was first to report on the story.

Interestingly, the sum Stewarts and its plaintiffs are seeking -- $15 billion -- is just $1 billion shy of the cash Facebook will raise in its offering.

Was the FB deal over hyped?

0.6% gain could well turn into massive losses. I think you are seeing the FB users buy. FB users = losers in my view.
I think FB is a joke, a fad that has lasted too long, an easily competed / defeated competitor to something (My Space has come and gone) and all that but I also think this law suit is a shame. A shame that nobody can go into business, build wealth and not have a lawyer trumping up something to take it from them.
Remember what Zuck thought of facebook users ?
“Zuck: Dumb f**ks.”
You can google to find the text of those IM exchanges between him and his friends.
Oh, and there’s the other guys who he was working for, building a similar site. And he strung them along while he really worked on his own site. When they found out he had his own site and the work he was doing for them he... never did... they sued him and accepted what could now be considered a paltry settlement.
Nice guy.
I use FB. Sarah Palin uses it. Rush uses it. Lots of conservatives use it. Free Republic uses it.
go ahead.
You, Sarah and Rush are all welcome to use it. I imagine Sarah and Rush have pages that are a little different from the mainstream since they use it as a tool and probably don’t have a bunch of personal info and broadcasts on it.
It may have its place but I don’t use it socially and won’t. I will say it is or something like it is very useful in a disaster for getting information out to a lot of people fast.
Not if you have it set for ‘private’. Exactly what info do you think people are giving out that couldn’t be found out anyway? I use fake name, gmail acct. etc. Some people are just a little too quick to judge.
Really? Who might that be?
Have fun.
