Democrats always talk about how important it is to have “progressive” taxes, yet they promote pretty much the most regressive tax in this country.
Even with sales tax, more well-off people tend to buy things that are more expensive and thus pay more taxes. My tires cost $80 a piece, and the ones on that Mercedes AMG cost $500 a piece and have to be replaced more often. But with gas tax, it’s the well-off people who are better able to afford brand-new fuel efficient cars, and even buy $40,000 hybrids that are the functional and luxury equivalent of a $20,000 gasoline-powered car.
The poor are stuck with their gas-guzzling clunkers that suck more gas year after year as the engine gets older. The poor family with only an old gas-guzzling family van has to use that for everything, they can’t afford to buy a new 50 mpg car for when dad needs to commute 20 miles to work. In the 20 mpg van, this trip to his $20 an hour job costs him $7.20, and the Democrats want to raise that to $14. Because of the Democrats, he now has to work almost a whole hour of his day just to pay for the gas to get to work and back.
As usual, Democrats are the enemy of the poor while pretending to be their champions.
The democrats don’t want him in that van at all going to work. They want him on the bus, the train, his bike...
