Mitt Romney vows immediate approval of Keystone XL on first day in White House
Calgary Herald ^ | MAY 18, 2012 | LEE-ANNE GOODMAN

Mitt Romney is vowing to approve TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline on his first day on the job if elected U.S. president in November.

In a campaign ad unveiled on Friday, the presumptive Republican nominee asks voters to imagine Day 1 of his presidency, and lists Keystone as a top priority.

"Day One, President Romney immediately approves the Keystone pipeline, creating thousands of jobs that Obama blocked," the ad's narrator says.

Romney has been maligning U.S. President Barack Obama for months for failing to give the green light to Keystone. The president rejected the $7 billion pipeline earlier this year, but invited TransCanada Corp. to apply for another permit once the Calgary-based company rerouted the project around a crucial aquifer in Nebraska.

"I will build that pipeline if I have to myself," Romney said last month.

TransCanada recently came up with a new route for Keystone XL, one that skirts the Nebraska aquifer before joining up with the original proposed path of the pipeline.

Environmentalists say the new route continues to pose threats to Nebraska's drinking water since it still traverses the aquifer, only avoiding a portion of the state's Sandhills region where groundwater is close to the surface.

U.S. environmentalists have mounted a massive campaign against the pipeline, calling it a disaster waiting to happen and insisting it would sustain America's addiction to "dirty oil."

Keystone XL would transport oilsands crude from northern Alberta through six U.S. states to Gulf Coast refineries.

The debate over the pipeline became a political migraine for Obama. Keystone XL proponents said he was turning his back on much-needed American jobs by stalling on the Canadian pipeline, while environmentalists urged him to stand up to the oil industry as he promised to do while running for president in 2008.

The State Department will make the final decision on the pipeline because it crosses an international border.

Hopefully someone like Sarah or West or ??? will see what is going on and run third party, otherwise we’re stuck with obama for 4 more years.

You’ll be stuck with Obama with a 3rd party run, imo. 3rd parties aren’t going to carry enough Electoral College votes to win.

Mittsie’s a great political game player. Well, Mitt how about “drill here, drill now!” We’ve got plenty of naatural resources, and we need to start producing those resources now, get the price of oil back down, the overall effect on the economy would be treee-mendous.

If people see romney can’t win & don’t want obama, I think they will be open to something else. We have never been stuck with choice of evil and more evil.

I wonder if Rush believed what he said, Rush never commented on that, and he’s got to have a gut feel for Romney.

This was before Santorum and Gingrich dropped out,
so he just mentioned the conversation to a caller and didn’t comment further.

Be careful. You can’t say anything remotely positive about the guy. He’s a Mormon, you know.

Lots of *stuff* you should do on your first day, Mitt. Or even your first week.

Eliminate capital gains tax, death tax, cut top rate to 1/2.

Restore full military budgets, including NASA.

Then start the process to repeal Obamacare.

Not enough room here for the full list.....

Click the above link and make your predictions as to which states a 3rd party can win and find a way to get to 270 EC votes. Won’t happen imo.

Did romney fix those states (with the help of his friends and the gop) to keep people/third party off the ballot? Sounds like obama’s favorite trick.
They have so much in common.

We better hope that something changes at the convention, because romney will lose.

I listen to Rush regularly, and he’s mentioned the meet with Romney on several occasions, but never suggests whether or not he believes Romney will followup satisfactorily. IMHO, Romney will not, he’s just not a bold politician with a conservative political core, IOW, somewhat like GWB. But, the following paragraphs are a part of the transcript from Rush’s site about his meeting with Mittsie:

“The only thing I can tell you, Ken, is that Romney came by here in January. I think it was the 13th, the middle of the month. And I met with him after the show. It was about 4:30. I met with him for almost an hour, and he left here for a huge fundraiser a mile down the road, mile and a half. And during that conversation — I’ve mentioned this to you — he said to me that he wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up being a one-term president because he’s got to shake things up. This country can’t go the direction it’s going or his children and grandchildren and nobody else’s will have a future. When he was talking about that, he sounds just like you and me.

He sounds just like you and me when we talk about it. He was very affirmative in his acknowledgement to me of the threats posed by Obama and the Democrats to this country. If you had been in that conversation, you would not have doubted his conservatism at that moment. But then you would read where he has said in years past, “Look, I’m not a conservative. I’m not one of these,” and you’d scratch your head. I’m not saying it wiped any of those other instances out. I’m just telling you that that day, he sounded like me. He was fairly echoing the fears I have about what’s in store for this country if the Democrats are not stopped. This transformation, this belief that our founding was unjust and immoral and we’ve had a fraudulent country for 200-plus years.

That it’s a country that was structured by the rich, for the rich, at the expense of everybody else. And everybody was just left to fend for themselves. And the Founders knew that most people couldn’t fend for themselves, and that was the way that the Founders kept all the goodies for themselves and their family and others in their socioeconomic class. It was all part of the plan. (This is what Obama believes.) And that it’s finally taken 200-plus years, but the evidence of the failure of the founding of this country is now clear. And Obama is the right man at the right time to finally fix it. And he’s doing it by taking away everything he can from the rich that he can.”

Perot got approximately 20% of the popular vote. How many EC votes did he get? 3rd Parties don’t win without a national and state by state base of support to get to 270.

Have a nice day and root for the Keystone Pipeline approval no matter who is elected.

Your making my point. Romney raised his middle finger to real conservatives & they make up a large part of the party. He thinks and said we will vote for him. (He is so arrogant.) When romney is really vetted, people will stay home or vote third party. We have never been in a situation where we have two choices so bad.

I’ll be voting 3rd party in the presidential race and republican in the house and senate races.

Romney made it clear that his neo democrat party doesn’t want conservative voters.

So we agree 3rd parties don’t win.

Again have a nice day and support the Keystone Pipeline approval.

“Mitt Romney is vowing to approve TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline on his first day on the job if elected U.S. president in November.”

Smart move by Romney. (and I voted for Gingrinch in the CT primary)

Talk like this could actually get the guy elected...

Of course, one still wonders if, on January 22, he will actually live up to that promise...

“Justice Dept. investigations of the New Black Panthers, Fast & Furious, Jon Corzine, Solyndra & Company, & others”

Better than that would be an “investigation” of the Justice Department ITSELF, regarding its behavior over the previous four years!

No, if ever there is a chance for third party, it’s now. If our choice is romney or obama, a lot of people won’t vote. If Perrot could get 20%, imagine how much conservatives & those who are tired of the two parties chosing liberals for us. I’m a Christian first, meaning I won’t vote for someone who lies, cheats, steals and is pro-gay, pro-abortion..so romney is out. There are lots ol us who want another choice.

This is year of real change and not obamas type of change. I’m a delegate, but romney will NEVER get my vote. He will stay 8 years & will pull the country so far left, that in 2020 we will be Europe.

I’m a delegate, but romney will NEVER get my vote.

Do you mean by that, if your state votes for Romney, you will not, as a delegate, cast your Electoral College vote representing your state for Romney?

Sorry if I misunderstood, will you please clarify?
