PLYMOUTH, MI, May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - Westport Innovations Inc. (TSX:WPT / NASDAQ:WPRT), the global leader in natural gas engines, is taking its first natural gas pick-up truck on a road trip across the Eastern USA this week, from May 21 to 24. Driving entirely on compressed natural gas (CNG), a team from Westport Innovations will make the 700 mile drive in the brand new Westport WiNG powered bi-fuel Ford F-250 Super Duty truck.
During stops in Cleveland, OH; Canton, OH; Pittsburgh, PA; and Pottstown, PA; the public will have the chance to view and drive this low carbon fuel vehicle. This will be the first opportunity for many people to see and drive this new product. In New York City, the Ford F-250 will be parked in Times Square.

Bi-fuel capability, provided by the Westport WiNG Power System, eliminates the risk or anxiety in long distance driving. As the number of CNG stations grows, it will become easier to do extended drives on CNG alone. Using natural gas for transportation fuel saves money, improves the environment and will help to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil.
"The new Westport Wing Power System available through Ford continues to show that the OEMs are serious about using CNG and LNG as a transportation fuel," said Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities Executive Director Rick Price. "Westport, who has been in the leader for years in the heavy duty market, brings its technology to the light duty market. We are excited because fleets are interested in CNG and LNG in this area and numerous refueling stations are to be installed in the next two years. Alternative fueled vehicles are definitely on the increase in Western Pennsylvania."

And who is Westport’s most famous or infamous stockholder?
I give up, who?
I give up, who?
hmmm - not plagarism, I promise.
Kevin Douglas.
And waaaayyyy down the list, me. Obama et al are doing everything possible to ruin the natural gas market, which promises energy independence for Americans and wrecks his plans to make us poorer and more dependent.
Around the US today a taxed and delivered gallon of gasoline or diesel fuel is about $3.50-$4, whereas you can buy the equivalent energy in natural gas at the meter for about 60 cents.
Ans WPRT is in a great position to take advantage of that disparity as soon as we get some pro-US leadership in this country.
Al Gore, his own bad self?
The conspiracy theory is based on the loan guarantees for Petrobras and the federal subsidies for those who would use natural gas engines manufactured by Westport

Sorry, I don’t want to play Twenty Questions, and I don’t remember all the crooks that O’bama’s given billions to.
It has to be Al Gore.
But, even if it is Gore, I think the utilization of low cost nat gas reserves is going to be the driver of US competitiveness.
WPRT is one of the many firms that is positioned to enable US natgas utilization.

I’ve done a little research on the CNG Bi-fuel options. You can get a MUCH better deal here: http://cngsolutions.net/faqs . The problem isn’t the conversion cost; for my vehicle it would be around $5K with a payback in 3 to 4 years. The problem is available CNG filling stations. There are a couple around the Pittsburgh area but none that I would consider close enough to actually use. The home filling option would cost me about another $5K or so initially, which knocks out the economic sense of the project. The home filling station also requires maintenance, and there could be issues with the fact that the federal government requires taxes to be paid on fuel used on public highways.
By the way U.S. truck sales usually indicate how the economy is going to go in 3 to 6 months and sales right now are way down.
