Michigan politicians met in downtown Detroit on May 14 to break ground on a new Whole Foods Market with hopes of boosting the area’s economy and bringing new jobs to the city.

The new store is said to be part of an incentive package that includes $4.2 million in state and local funds. The store will receive tax credits and promise to remain open for seven years after receiving the first installment, Spero News reported.

The Megabus stops there. I would go to pick up my Goddaughter coming in from Chicago.

You’re right. A block out is a war zone.
This Whole Foods better have some good security.

Who is going to keep watching this story and track the day it closes? You know it won’t make the news.

The theft will be rampant until such time as the store is torched.
(I believe this is the same outfit that opened a new store down the highway from us here about 10 or 15 years on. I went in and explored. Carrots were on sale for $8.00 per pound. I left and never returned. This is exactly what Detroit needs, — ten dollar carrots!? ) OUR TAX MONEY AT WORK!? Forget telling me about “better quality carrots!” — what we need is better quality Politicians!

Would Whole Foods be going in there without the government’s financial incentive to do so? The answer is clearly, “NO”.

Ofcourse it will. Can you imagine the green weenies who work at whole foods stepping up to Holder’s people who come in and help themselves to some range free chicken and bottles of wine?

True enough. My Brother in law makes 6 figures working for Compuware downtown. The real problem is that whole foods won’t have much of a customer base.

take a drive down Fenkell from Telegraph eastward.

There's no way I would take that drive.

A flat tire, or even stopping at one of the few still functioning red lights could get you in serious trouble.

“The real problem is that whole foods won’t have much of a customer base.”

Actually, Whole Foods will have a huge customer base.
It just won’t be the paying customer base. It will be the “Shrinkers” ( Thieves who shove steaks down their pants or dresses and walk out). I would hate to even guess what the “SHRINKAGE” will be for that store. That store will be a magnet for gangs and theives in Detroit.

4 mil should just about cover the cost of store security...

Whole Foods really does have excellent foods.
Meat Dept., produce, deli. Great salad bar.

Of course about all of it is organic, and expensive.

Is Fresh Mkt. nationwide? They have good stuff also.

That area wasn't good when it was white.

But there is Scotty Simpson's Fish and Chips. Still there after all these years.

Between the shoplifting, the store and parking lot robberies, and the vandalism,

that $4 mil isn’t going to last long.

Perfect match.

The last time I was in Detroit, what parts are inhabited smell like manure and pee. The only time I was in a Whole Foods, the entire produce section smelled like manure and pee.

The store may not be in the hood. But that doesn’t mean the gangs and hoodies won’t target the store.

Its downtown, it will have plenty of police protection just like the corporate offices and casinos down there. Downtown Detroit is actually quite upscale. Those people whine about the poor downtrodden po folk but they keep them at arm’s length.

I went to lunch with my brother in law and paid $25 for a cheese burger at the Hard Rock cafe in his building.

Locally, the liberal whiners carried on for years about how there were no grocery stores in a bad part of the city. When city leaders finally convinced some schmo to open one, it was only a matter of weeks before it was robbed. People commenting on the local paper’s website discussed the fact that somebody in their group had won $100 in their pool by picking the correct day.

Perhaps Freepers could start one on this deal. Pick a date when this store will be robbed. Don’t know what the winner will get other than bragging rights, though.
