To: Jack Hydrazine
Those for towers are for lightning.

Did NASA use a different system for their launches? Or is there something about this rocket that might be more attractive to lightning, or more dangerous if it hits (lack of grounding, etc.)?

Not sure, but I believe it’s because there is no gantry protecting the rocket as there was with the Shuttle.
