NC Teacher Suspended For Yelling At Student Over Comments About President Obama

SPENCER, NC -- A North Carolina high school teacher has been suspended following the release of a YouTube video in which she is heard yelling at a student in class and telling him it's wrong to criticize President Barack Obama.

The Salisbury Post reports that Tonya Dixon-Neely's class at North Rowan High School was discussing Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney when the conversation turned to accusations that Romney bullied someone as a teenager.

After listening to the woman's language skills, or lack thereof, I am not surprised that she isn't teaching English.

Do they have an Ebonics Department at that School? She should be heading it if they do.

Let’s not stereotype so much. This teacher may be rotten, but there are plenty of people (both liberals and conservatives) who are rotten.
By the way, education is still, I’d say, a high priority; and regardless of political affiliation, I have great respect for teachers (where would I be without them?). Teachers are so overworked; their full time shifts are nothing compared to the incredible amount of work they have to do outside of school. It’s certainly, too, a sign of virtue that teachers accept these amazing amounts of work for uncomfortably low salaries.

Does anybody here search before posting? I’m glad this story’s getting legs, but a lot of good comments and info are on the other threads.To me, the good news of the story was that the student was not cowed, understands the First Amendment, and pointed out the hypocrisy of the teacher as a response. Gives one a glimmer of hope...

Yep. I lost another long-time friend just last week after letting him know what I really think of Obama. I'd always known he was liberal, but was surprised when I got an email from him the next day explaining why he just couldn't continue the friendship. Being a Democrat has become his religion and now I must be shunned.

And this is no kid -- the guy's pushing 60.

That’s sad. Most of my liberal friends have changed their minds regarding Obama. Even those that haven’t have agreed to disagree with me.
