Why does everyone assume it is a male character ? Wonder Woman is an Amazon from an island of all women suspiciously like the Greek legend of Lesbos, isn’t she ?

Wonder Woman wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. If I were a betting man, that’s where my money would be.

There’s a bondage subtext in Wonder Woman; the creator, William Moulton Marston, admitted as such. Aside from being the inventor of the lie detector, he had an interest in bondage. Here’s a couple of quotes of his:

“The only hope for peace is to teach people who are full of pep and unbound force to enjoy being bound... Only when the control of self by others is more pleasant than the unbound assertion of self in human relationships can we hope for a stable, peaceful human society... Giving to others, being controlled by them, submitting to other people cannot possibly be enjoyable without a strong erotic element”.

In reference to Wonder Woman’s male readers, he said, “Give them an alluring woman stronger than themselves to submit to, and they’ll be proud to become her willing slaves!”

So, yeah........my money’s on Wonder Woman. Of course, I could be wrong; maybe she’s just a dominatrix.
