Many questions remain about open carry bill (OK)

Posted on 05/22/2012 5:02:51 AM PDT by marktwain

Can anyone seen openly and legally carrying a gun be stopped and asked to show their open-carry license? Who is or is not authorized to stop and question a person seen carrying a gun and ask to see the license? Does the open-carry bill make such provision? Many people will feel intimidated or made uncomfortable in the presence of openly carried weapons.

I have an Oklahoma concealed weapon license and shall continue to carry a concealed gun unless a new law makes concealment unlawful. As a combat veteran, I learned that it's good military strategy to keep your enemy (including outlaws) unaware or at least guessing as to your defensive abilities. Gov. Fallin and our legislators should've considered that which is good military strategy before making open carry part of state law.

Many people feel intimidated in the presence of men over six feet tall. Many people feel intimidated in the presence of black men or beautiful women.

So what? People do not have a right not to "feel intimidated". People control their own attitudes. It is not something the legislature can control.

You’re right. While I get the idea of concealment and not advertising capabilities. .. An open display can act as a deterrent and prevent a situation from even getting started. A good mix of both would be best IMHO.

I always felt safer traveling with the dad of one of my daughter's AAU teammates. 6'4 weighlifting black guy. He could break me in half.

I always feel safer when I see a police officer with a sidearm. Haven't seen any open carry yet in Tulsa or OKC.

As a resident of Virginia, I do not feel any more or less safe when I see someone carrying in the open.

I am an avid proponent of concealed-carry without a permit.

There are times open carry makes sense and times when concealed makes sense.

Consider a businessman leaving his place of business carrying cash late at night. Open carry actually prevents him from being robbed. Concealed means he would be approached by muggers and would have to defend himself.

There are more situations where concealed makes sense than open, but since it’s our RIGHT we should not give up on the ability to do either.

And i HOPE it makes the crooked cops and crooked government officials nervous.

Remember open carry is NOT legal in OK until 1 Nov ‘12.

Why do you feel safer when you see a cop carrying a gun?
In Tulsa they don’t always look like cops, sometimes they just wear “mall ninja” pants with a T shirt that has an iron on badge decal. You might even miss it unless you look closer.

If I ever open carry, I plan to wear a tie, will that make you “feel” better?

I hope OK is NOT considering a license for open carry. If you give the power “to issue”, you loose the Right to carry.
