When I was just a boy we moved to a Northern CA county, we were poor and it took a while to get things to a point where we could eat regular. We killed deer out of season. In our county there was a game warden who knew just about everyone, when he caught a poacher he knew the ones that needed the meat and the ones who did it just because. He would never jail a person who was just feeding his/her family(yep, there are some female poachers(hunters))but would run in anyone he thought were just shooting them for sport our of season.

As I became an adult he was replaced(he died)by a guy who went strictly by the rules and would jail anyone for killing a deer out of season, by that time my family didn't poach, as we didn't need the meat to survive. If this guy really needed the meat, he is welcome to it in my opinion.

I fell for the fake banned profile last week in JimRob's "Ain't No Way I'm Gonna Ban HG" thread (that appears to have been pulled) so I thought I'd spread some of the fun around.

He's alive and well - some folks would say more wolverine than possum, but I don't mind wolverines unless they are the maize-and-blue kind.

The government bought my grandfather’s cattle, shot them and left them to rot while people in town were starving. Government people actually made sure no one could use the meat- guarded the dead animals. I understand the government did this nation wide with cattle, pigs, etc.

Read The Forgotten Man by Amity Shlaes. It tells how FDR unnecessarily lengthened and deepened the recession that became the Great Depression. In it it tells of this slaughter, pouring milk into streams and burning of fields while people starved. It's eerily similar to today.

I was watching a video about Detroit, and they were talking with some old, OLD guy and he was saying how rough it was, how poor he is, etc. (In the background were a couple of dogs barking and I was thinking - well - maybe you could find another home for the dogs and save some money).

As soon as I had thought that he was out of his chair and going into the backyard where he had a freezer. A sign said “Coons: $5.00 2 for $8.00”

He used the dogs to hunt raccoons in the wilds of Detroit! And sold them for food. He described how to prepare them too. I really felt bad judging the guy, and here he was just another entrepreneur!

(They also showed how much of Detroit HAS turned back to wild land). Of course all of those videos were made back in the days of G.W. Bush.

That must be some interesting scenery, a major city turned into farms and woodlands.

I don’t know about eating raccoons, though. Being a cousin of bears, I imagine they are really greasy.
